So what is Mirabel's gift? Mirabel Madrigal (Stephanie Beatriz) is not like the rest of her family in Encanto. All Madrigals in the movie receive magical gifts to help the family and their village. For example, Mirabelle's sister Luisa (Jessica Darrow) gains super strength and her cousin Dolores (Adassa) has the ability to hear clearly.
However, in the film, Mirabel does not receive the gift, causing problems in her relationship with Abuela Alma (María Cecilia Botero). Alma is in constant fear that she will lose her magic and abandon her family and village. So she gets especially upset when Mirabel doesn't get a present during the holiday.

It's unlikely that Encanto would go down such a hurtful path by making Mirabel's lack of gift a sign of a lack of personality. It is much more correct to believe that Encanto gave Mirabel an unspoken gift. Therefore, the theory that she should take Abuela's place has some weight.
So while there's evidence that Mirabel's gift was secretly a gateway, the movie also shows that Mirabel wasn't really gifted at anything. Instead, he earns a front door to a house in Encanto.
