On April 22, 2004, Cpl. Jason Dunham died surrounded by his family and the Commandant of the Marine Corps. Less than a week earlier, Dunham threw himself on a grenade during combat in Iraq's Anbar province. His sacrifice saved two of his fellow marines;

Three years later, Dunham was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor. These Marines want to tell their story to the world, but they need your help. That day, the 3rd Battalion, 7th Marines met with local Iraqi government officials. In the early days of the war in Iraq, the territory in which they operated was one of the most brutal and dangerous for American troops.

After completing the mission, the Marines left, but were quickly ambushed. Danem was part of the team that ensured the safety of the meeting. When the ambush began, he and his fellow Marines—in true Marine fashion—ran toward danger. Although the insurgents disappeared into the crowd almost as quickly as the attack began, the Marines knew what to look for, quickly finding a truckload of rifles and rocket-propelled grenades.

The driver jumped out of the car and attacked Dunham. A Marine fought him, as did two others, Pfc. Kelly Miller and Lance Caple. Bill Hampton came to help. The next thing they saw was Dunham in his own Kevlar helmet as a grenade exploded, piercing his body armor.
