The gift is also a major gift to the local arts and demonstrates to the community the importance of continued investment in arts and culture in Portland and our region. The museum was presented by her son, Jordan Schnitzer. Governor Kate Brown spoke to nearly 200 people and highlighted Mrs. Schnitzer's extraordinary leadership, the importance of the Schnitzers and other state investments in the arts.
US Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici brought more good news to this morning's event by announcing a $750,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities to support the Museum Connect campaign. Through the campaign, the museum will transform its campus by connecting two buildings with a new Mark Rothko Pavilion and increasing donations to support access, exhibits and programs.
Schnitzer's gift represents a major gift in the museum's ongoing Connections campaign, which is currently in a quiet phase. The official announcement of the public campaign is planned for 2021. The museum grounds are currently closed to protect public health during the coronavirus pandemic. Remember, museum members receive a 10% discount on all food and beverages.

One of the greatest things about the Portland Art Museum is its unwavering support for local talent. In addition to regularly exhibiting the work of well-known Portland artists, the museum encourages emerging artists to develop and showcase their talents through rental sales galleries.
All Portlanders who are talented in the arts and want to pursue a career as an artist are invited to join the gallery as a member artist. Rental Sales Gallery currently represents over 200 local artists using all types of media. Each year, we host a Spring Show and a Fall Show where the work of our member artists is displayed and available for public purchase.
It also hosts a summer show every two years, highlighting the work of new artists. If you happen to be in Portland in time for one of these great shows, you can enjoy fresh art and buy a piece or two to take home. The Portland Art Museum is very accessible if you're in town.
If you choose to take the bus, it's a 4-5 minute walk from bus stops including SW Salmon & Park East, SW Jefferson & Broadway West, SW 6th & Columbia, and SW 6th & Main. There are 20 different bus routes that take you to these stations, so getting there is no problem.

If you want to go straight to the museum from Portland Airport, the best way to go is by tram. It takes about 46 minutes and costs $3. There is no direct route, so if you don't mind changing trains, you can also use the bus.
The bus journey time is approximately 1 hour and 12 minutes.
