Jane's Addiction Gift
Instead, singer Perry Farrell and ex-boyfriend Casey Nicolli wrote and directed the low-budget video film Gift. Despite only being released a few years after the band broke up (in 1993) and focusing mainly on Pharrell and Nicolli, this 80 minute video is absolutely hilarious (acting, dialogue, etc.), but also very interesting.
The storyline took place during the recording of the ritual, when Pharrell returned from a recording session to find that his girlfriend had died from a fatal dose of heroin, leaving most of the script in flashback mode. Not a video for the faint of heart (there is a lot of injecting drug use), it does have its lighthearted moments.
There are some funny characters/scenes straight out of a David Lee Roth video: an anonymous gynecologist, a drug counseling session with over 20 patients bordering The Twilight Zone (including Pharrell's cameo as the doctor), two cold-hearted cops, and a thick pizza delivery guy" Dead!" Also included is a concert version of and catchy clip for "Ain't Right," and the closing ballads of Ritual "Classic Girl," in which Pharrell and Nickoli wed, and Sly Stone's "Don't Call Me Nigger," Whitey, "Zen's

This film is about Perry Ferrell, the lead singer for the Addiction Genre.

Everything. There's a story in it, which is sometimes obscure but it's fun. Jane's addiction videos are mixed with scenes of drug use and just plain humor. The film was considered an underground hit and was shown at indie film events on college campuses. "If it's the weather. The man dresses like a scumbag, but is he a weather forecaster?"
But, if you have a problem with needles, this film is not for you. There are scenes with drug use that will make addicts sweat! I think this film is out of print. | I have never seen it on DVD. If you like Janus Addiction or not this is a powerful film dealing with sex, drugs and rock'n'roll in the early 90's.. not for the faint of heart but a beautifully intertwined love story
