It runs from now until October 15th and recognizes the contributions and influence of African Americans in the culture and history of the United States. Joining host Tati Amare to talk more about this is Gloria Rosa Biaco, owner of Xochis Gift Shop in southwest Detroit.
Gloria's parents opened the famous store in 1985 and believed that their family could take care of their culture, improve and learn about it. They travel to Mexico to pick up arts and crafts directly from vendors and artists. Gloria said that families often come and parents show the children things they remember from childhood.

Over the years, they have also hosted student tours to teach children about Mexican culture. Examples of what they have are traditional Nierika or traditional Mexican paintings by the Huichol people. These detailed images are made by gluing thin strips to a board. They also feature various artworks depicting Día de Los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, an important holiday in Mexican culture that honors and remembers their departed loved ones.
Fashion is another thing they show, including beautiful dresses from the state of Chiapas. For the full interview, watch the video above.
