We're going to start getting everyone to agree on what we're talking about and why. Well, that's a question that needs to be answered. There are actually three different things one could call a "Disney gift card": This is what people usually say, and what everyone else posts will say.
It's a standard Disney gift card that you can purchase anywhere from Disney Stores to Jewel, and can be used at most Disney locations across the United States. That is, it is the primary way to redeem points in the Disney Rewards program. Like a Disney gift card, it can be used at most Disney locations in the United States.
Unlike gift cards, you don't buy, sell or give them away, they're only there to redeem the points you've earned by using a Disney gift card. Credit card. Not many people call it a "Disney Gift Card," but we wanted to let you know that there is a possibility of a scam selling Disney Store merchandise credits, which come in the form of a "Disney Gift Card."

Before we get into the details of how to get these benefits, let's look at the bottom line. You can expect to save between 5% and 10% on your trip by using Disney gift cards. (How we got these numbers is discussed in more detail below.) 5% is the base.
What Is A Disney Gift Card?
Using the Target RedCard (discussed below) or other credit cards that offer 5% off a few simple purchases can save you 5%. 10% is more or less the maximum. With the right combination of offers, credit cards, and membership options, you can get up to 9%.
With a boost, which usually requires a credit card with a high annual fee, it goes up to 11.2%. I don't know of an easy way to get you to 10%. Finally, please note that these are fees that do not exceed the standard rates charged by Disney.

This is going to be a big deal for two reasons. First, if you have a credit card that gives you 3% back on all purchases, you're already close to 5%. Secondly, if someone other than Disney is offering hotels/tickets more than 5%-10% off Disney prices, the Disney Gift Card discount is not needed.
When we use the phrase "discounted Disney talent," we're actually talking about two different things at times. The former is the most common and obvious way of using the word. Receive a Disney Gift Card discount when you purchase a gift card that does not exceed the value of the card.
Where Can I Get A Disney Gift Card?
Buy $50 in Disney Gift Cards for $45 in Disney Gift Cards. One thing we don't count as a discount is using your credit card points or cash back to purchase gift cards. If you have $100 cash in your credit card account, that's as good as another $100. If you decide to spend it on a $100 Disney gift card, it's no better than spending another $100 on a $100 gift card. Of course, if you can use that $100 cash back for $110 in Disney gift cards, as some programs allow, you've now earned a Disney gift card.
A second, and less common, way to get a discount gift card is to make purchases using a credit card that earns cash or high bonus points. In short, everyone should get the 2% cash back, so the discount gets more than 2% or 2x the points.
So let's say you get access to 5% cash back with a credit card and buy a $100 gift card. You'll get $5 back, which means the card only costs you $95. If you don't understand the difference between that and using your money to redeem a gift card, take a second, are two very different things.

The company is always figuring out how to redeem gift cards for promotions like this, so your mileage may vary.
But we ran into warnings. First, these categories are typically capped at $1,500, meaning that if you spend $3,000 on groceries during the applicable quarter, you'll get $75 off the first $1,500 and whatever the standard rate is (usually 0% or 1%) according to $1,500.
So if you're going to spend that $1,500 anyway, you're not really going to save on the Disney gift cards you buy first (especially if it turns out the gift cards aren't listed). It's best if you want to buy a Disney gift card in a category where you wouldn't get other bonuses.
For example, let's look at January through March. During the quarter, Discover returned 5% at grocery stores and Citi returned 5% at Home Depot and gas stations. Now, let's say your local grocery store and Home Depot both sell Disney cards. Since I've never shopped at Home Depot and will likely spend $1,500 on groceries this season, I'd like to use my Citi card to purchase a $1,500 Disney gift card at Home Depot.
