To make your favorite companions in Star Wars: The Old Republic more effective, both on the battlefield and in design, you will need to increase your influence with them to 50.
Gift Preferences[]
Increasing influence can be done in many ways - love from conversations, staff skills activities, gift giving, etc. This means that a level 50 partner will have a 2500 presence bonus, 75% uptime, and 25% of the critical level in labor skill tasks. A presence bonus increases your partner's performance as a tank, DPS, or healer that accumulates on top of your presence stats obtained from datacrones.

The fastest way is to use the "Commander's Compendium" which instantly increases your active partner to 50. It can be purchased from V1C-0RY located in the Stronghold & Crew Skills section of this merchant ship. Alternatively, you can buy them at the Cartel Market Cash Shop for 900 Cartel Coins each, or 3 bundles for 1,800 Cartel Coins.
Another way to gain influence quickly is to shower your partners with gifts. Each partner wants different types of gifts and likes some gifts more than others. The higher the level and rarity, the higher the effect you get for each gift. Helpful Hint: To increase how much influence you get with each gift, you can unlock a character perk called Legacy of Altruism, which increases the amount of partner influence your partner receives by giving gifts by up to 30%.
Requires Legacy Level 8 and 90,000 credits for all three levels. Activating Quick Inheritance will reduce the time it takes to gift your partner by 60%. Republic Companions[]
In addition to being able to purchase companion gifts in GTN, you can also purchase level 5 prototype and artifact gifts (blue and purple) from the "gift vendor" in the Galactic Market area for vehicles. In Fleet's Cartel Bazaar you can use Java Scraps to buy 6 delicious food and crafting gifts that your droid friends and creatures love.
The most effective are the Rank 6 Legendary Companion gifts that can be purchased from the merchant at the Odesen Cantina. Each gift is worth 250,000 credits and has a huge impact. Helpful Hint: Remember that when you give locked supply crates to your Odesen mentors, which you can earn [through Heroic Missions] at level 61 and above, you will receive Prototype, Artifact, and Legendary Companion gifts.

Cartel Market Companions[]
Not all partners love the same gifts, and there are three different levels of love you can give with a gift. The most popular gift is love, the most popular couple, and the most popular. It's cheaper and more practical to give them gifts they like than gifts they like or dislike.
However, not all partners have their favorite gifts, and some only have favorites as their main gift (Qyzen Fess is a prime example).
