Spiritual Gift Of Encouragement

2023 “Good Friday” Reminders to Follow for an Ordinary DayLYSA TERKEURST Lee en español“'My soul is filled with sorrow for… "Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God in Christ forgive you." Ephesians 4:32 (TAB) When my children were younger, I encouraged the "no mocking" rule in our home.

While teasing is generally considered polite and harmless, I know that bullying, even when done in jest, can cause deep hurt. After all, there's usually some truth behind those soft comments that can cause feelings of frustration, guilt, or worthlessness. It's easy, in a vulnerable moment, to join in on the joke, make a rude comment, give a sarcastic response, or snap back.

But often we don't stop to think how our words can end. A few months ago, I broke my rule and engaged in a light prank with friends. I joked about a friend's penchant for pessimism, and as soon as the words came out of my mouth, I knew they caused me pain.

Our Favorite Things

My friend already knows she struggles with negativity—she doesn't need me to point it out, especially in front of others. She felt guilty and frustrated that she wasn't as happy as the other girls. He doesn't need me to use his fight as fuel for entertainment.

As I watched his face fall and later watched him retreat to another room, I was ashamed. My words are harsh, not kind. They knocked it down instead of building it up. They cause harm, not good. I am thankful that my friend showed grace quickly when I apologized.

He never held a grudge or tried to hurt me more than I already felt. He spoke words that I did not deserve. Our main verse, Ephesians 4:32, commands us to "Be kind and compassionate to one another." In the New Testament, the Greek word commonly used for "kind" has less to do with goodness and sweetness and more to do with bounty and grace.

It is not an automatic response to another person's good deeds, but it is an undeserved and unexpected gift. This is why kind words can have a deep and lasting impact on those who receive them. When we know we deserve rebuke or correction but are offered patience or affirmation instead, it makes all the difference in our times.

Our Favorite Things

We become His enemies because of our sin, but if we believe in Him, He calls us "friends" (John 15:15, NLT). We deserve to be rejected by His Kingdom, but He invites us, "Come" (Matthew 11:28, NLT). We deserve His righteous wrath, but He offers forgiveness.

Ephesians 2:3-7) He always encourages our hearts through the Scriptures through kind words. To those who are sad, He said: I am with you. To the rejected, I love you. I will strengthen the weak. For those who are hurting, I will heal you. (Isaiah 43:3; Jeremiah 31:3; Isaiah 41:10; Ezekiel 34:16) Our heavenly Father is abundant with kind words toward us.

I've had it since I was young. So I know I have that gift to encourage. ❤️ However, I pray to God for revelation regarding this gift of preaching. So, I researched and put together this blog post. I really want clarification from God if I have a gift to take care of.

If you're in the same boat, ask yourself...you're in good company! I come to you not as an authority, but as a peer trying to figure this out with you. The spiritual gift of exhortation is given to believers to encourage and strengthen other believers.

It is a precious gift that must be used carefully. Preaching is a powerful tool that God has given us to help build up the Body of Christ. This is one of the gifts listed in Romans 12: Romans 12:8 (KJV) Or he that exhorts, as exhortation: let him that giveth do it faithfully;

one who rules, zealously; one who shows mercy, with joy. When it comes to the spiritual gift of preaching, many people are not sure what it is. In fact, many people confuse this gift with the gift of encouragement, but they are actually two different gifts.

Encouragement and counseling are two words that are often confused with each other. Sometimes people (and some Bible translations) use the terms interchangeably, but they have different meanings. You remember! Teachers and encouragers are both important to the church and both gifts are essential to the building up of the body of Christ.
