Sears, Kmart and Shop Your Way are open and ready to serve you," the retailer wrote in a letter to customers. "We respect our client plans," the letter added. "Our product warranties, coverage agreements, guarantees, Shop Your Way loyalty program and promotions will continue as normal. We continue to sell and accept gift cards, and you can continue to earn and use Shop Your Way points." The company also said,
The bankruptcy filing will not affect Sears Credit Card and Sears Mastercard. Still, consumers may remember what happened to Toys “R” Us, another financially struggling retailer, earlier this year. In March, the toy retailer announced it would liquidate its 735 stores after trying to restructure it under bankruptcy protection.

The situation with Toys “R” Us and Sears reinforces our advice on this point: stick to cash.
And skip the gift cards. "We've always recommended cash instead of gift cards, and we still do," Tetreault said. "Cash is rarely left behind in the back of the drawer and is welcome everywhere."
