Red Gift Hypixel - Banda Aceh is the capital of Aceh province on the Indonesian island of Sumatra. It was also the capital of the Sultanate of Aceh in the late 15th century. Located on the tip of Sumatra, Banda Aceh has long been a strategic, transportation and trade center in the eastern Indian Ocean and a major port in trade between the region, India and Arabia.

About 150,000 people died in Banda Aceh in the December 26, 2004 tsunami. Some parts of the city are permanently flooded. Since then, many aid agencies have been available to help rebuild. The long-standing conflict between the Aceh Independence Movement (GAM) and the Indonesian military (TNI) was temporarily resolved by a peace agreement on August 15, 2005.
Since then, the peace process has proceeded quite smoothly. In 2006, direct and democratic local elections were held in the region for the first time. The city receives an average of less than 2,000 mm of precipitation per year. Foreigners no longer need a travel permit (Jalan sura) to enter Aceh, but an Indonesian visa is required. A 30-day visa is available at Banda Aceh Airport. The embassy in Kuala Lumpur can sometimes issue a visa on the same day if you complete all the documents before noon, but this should only apply to Malaysian residents.

There are non-stop night buses, travel time from 9 am to 1 pm - from Medan to Banda Aceh. Major bus companies such as PMTOH, Pelangi, Kurnia and Pusaka have their offices on Jl. Gajah Mada, Medan. The price ranges from Rp. 110,000 in a bus with regular seats to Rp. 200,000 in a bus with wide seats.
Minibuses can also take you to Banda Aceh from the Medan area, but the journeys are usually longer. The prices are slightly lower than the bus. Banda Aceh can also be reached from Medan via Kutachan and Takengon. This will be a total of 20 hours.
Airlines fly daily between Banda Aceh and Medan, 1 hour journey, Jakarta, 2 hours 40 minutes journey, or Singapore, almost 4 hours. There are no more buses to the airport. The only way to get to the city area is by airport taxi, which costs Rp 100,000 (2019).

After exiting the entrance gate, the taxi stand is on the far left. Visa processing at this airport is similar to other Indonesian immigration gates. The nearest major (international) ferry terminal is the port of Belavan near Medan. Accepts ships from Batam, Indonesia (common route when arriving from Singapore).
The ferry from Penang no longer operates. From Ulhee-Lhee, the port of Banda Aceh, you can go to Pulau Veh and Pulau Aceh. The main means of transportation are vičak (mototaxi) and labi-labi (public minibus). The sudden influx of money after the tsunami caused the locals to overpay, but stability has now been restored.

There are also small souvenir shops selling various local items. Hermes Palace Mall is located in the heart of Banda Aceh. The mall has over 100 shops including a restaurant, supermarket and clothing stores. Acehnese breakfast is nasi gurih, rice cooked in coconut milk, sold in coffee shops everywhere.
Padang food stalls and restaurants are open in the pristine part of town and fruit carts are everywhere. Around Ulee Karenga, along Jl Tengku Iskandar on the western edge of the city, there are beautiful cafes with soothing rice paddy views. There are three fast food restaurants in the center: A&V, KFC and Pizza Hut.

As with any trip, it's important to have a good attitude in this small town. However, there are some points to keep in mind. Although Banda Aceh is safer than most European cities these days, it's best not to go out alone after 10pm. Due to Sharia law, it is not allowed to drink alcohol, but it is still possible.

Violating the local interpretation of Sharia law can lead to arrest with physical punishment by Sharia police and public ridicule of the offending Muslim. Muslim women are generally required to wear headscarves in public. Western style swimwear is not recommended except for sabang. Pick-pocketing is very rare, but be careful and watch out for crowds.
