Usually the predictor is after gold. Explorers are a type of explorer, but with a specific purpose: the prospector is after a mineral deposit. Mineral deposits are found in the soil, so prospectors usually look below. They also use tools like molds and metal detectors to find the minerals they contain.
Since gold is such a valuable mineral, it has long been at the top of searchers' list. Gold diggers can become rich. In discovering a country in search of precious mineral resources, it is very important to search systematically and carefully along the sands and rocks of river beds, at the bottom of dry streams and ravines, as well as along the coast.

Flow and glacial action not only crush masses and particles, but by unaltered laws of gravity depositing debris on the ground below: but also on the coasts of California, Oregon, and New Zealand. Elsewhere, ocean currents distribute heavy metals that disperse in a normal way.
In the search for gold, prospectors should note the characteristics of loose rock found in ravines or ravines, especially in wells that leave heavy material in the new season or in dry wells, common in the mountains. It is often worth checking for holes and channels and cracks in the hard rock through which the stream flows or has flowed.

All terrestrial deposits are the result of chemical or mechanical action, which generally act as natural guides to parts of the earth's crust in their immediate vicinity. The search for heavy metals remaining in the form of deposits is based on one and the same rules, and consequently the search for precious metals can be chosen as an example of the method.
In locating river flood sands, remember that if an open river bed yields good gold dust, it will yield dust or larger grains near the flow hill. Gold particles along the stream may indicate a gold nugget near the source. The water that washes the gold off the mountain has already thrown it away, leaving the heavier particles and lighter traffic behind.
Rich deposits are often places where the current is separated by a genetic or directional change and makes a sudden turn, so there is a cliff on one side of the stream and a gentle slope on the other. The latter may be rich in heavy metals.

Sometimes many of these curves slope against the cliff, and on these slopes there is a greater chance of finding gold than where there is direct current. The completion of the mountain chain also provides a potential site for excavation. Usually in a canyon or valley where the gold grains are found in the lowest part of the rivers or streams, concentrations of rock or gravel are found to be greater on either side of the range and more or less parallel to the bed of the creek.

Portions of such deposits should be carefully examined visually (and with a magnifying glass) and rinsed in a tub of nearby water, a gold material that may have been brought up by water in the past, but flows or glaciers may have a more golden color.
The layer next to the "rock" that crushes the debris. If there are many different deposits, the deeper layer of each period is usually the most profitable. When alluvium is formed from loose gravel mixed with rock or gold ore, along with other heavy materials, it is found under most solid deposits and next to "rocks" or mixed with "rock" or clay.
Therefore, the earth problem on "bed rock" needs more attention than anywhere else. If the clay contains precious metals, it must be carefully washed. In search of streams, if the streams obstruct the excavation, the courses of the streams should be diverted by means of a back-trench, so that the water may flow through them.
In this way the bed can be left bare, and then the stone or boulder can be easily removed and the fine gravel can be washed under running water. It must be remembered that when gold occurs in the alluvials, the chances of the soil being wind-blown — which does not have to pay for labor, and may be a source of more permanent wealth than gravel — pass over the height of the neighboring soil.
