But it doesn't end there... not a vintage c.1958 motel in Pines Saugatuck/Douglas is a pleasant experience.
This is a place for people who are looking for the unexpected and prefer a cute personality over plastic room keys. Playing on the motel's name, the rooms are decorated with shades of pine, cedar and an architectural twist. The rooms are clean, fresh, clean and decorated in bright, cheerful colors.
Beds, all pillowtops, are decorated in fun, attractive fabrics, with rugs and countless pillows. Outside the rooms, solid Amish-made Adirondack chairs are whitewashed to contrast with the building's lime green, and large galvanized gutters and sprinklers filled with flowers and greenery separate each room with its own outdoor space.

A continental breakfast includes fruit and muffins. free ice A friend, a former resident of Michigan, recommended this hotel. This was a very unique, comfortable and enjoyable 2 night stay in the Douglas/Saugatuck area. Wish we could have stayed longer. Steve took a lot of time to show us the area on our map and make suggestions when we checked in.

Some of my favorite things are the retro refrigerator and microwave in our living room, the fridge and wine openers outside the office, and the fun gift shop! We didn't get a chance to sit under the pines in the cozy seating/BBQ area, but it looked lovely.
The continental breakfast was appreciated, especially the fruit and yogurt. I hope to return one day. If you need a place to go and de-stress, Pines Motor Lodge is a great choice. The owners, Rob and Steve, are very upfront about what they sell: a place to sleep.
Their main goal is a nice, clean and comfortable place to relax after a hard day at the beach. It's a small place (only 14 rooms) and they are happy to help or answer questions about the area. Pines caters to an older population, so it's very quiet.

It's spartan about things that kids and families love. It doesn't have a pool, on-site dining, arcade games, vending machines, or other amenities that larger hotels have. The only extra they offer is a gift shop filled with kitsch and various trinkets/souvenirs. Rooms are generally clean and comfortable, but again spartan compared to major chains.

My room had satellite TV, two chairs and a small table, two extra Adirondack chairs outside, a very comfortable bed with 6 pillows, a dresser and clean towels for two people. They had soap and shampoo, but if you needed lotion, conditioner, toothpaste, sewing kits, or anything else, you'd be better off bringing it yourself.
They are a very small operation, nothing like that on hand. The motel is a little outside the hustle and bustle of Saugatuck, but it's a quick trip across the bridge to downtown, and a short drive to Oval Beach and downtown Douglas. If you're feeling sporty, you can ride a bike, but no one will judge you if you drive.
The rooms have refrigerators and microwaves, which is very convenient since there is a grocery store and liquor store nearby. There's a place around the corner that rents beach umbrellas and the like, so everything you need for a beach vacation is just a stone's throw from the Pines.
Pins delivers exactly what it says on the tin and I would recommend it to anyone looking to relax. This is our fourth visit to Summer Pines, and each year something new and beautiful is added. The mattresses are so comfortable, the duvets are cozy, the flowers in the vases are cozy and fun, the Pink Flamingo theme makes us smile, the morning coffee and pastries on the front porch start our day perfectly, five minutes.
