Three gift cards purchased by Carolyn Horn from Hardee's in December at the Walmart Supercenter in Bonsac. Horn put $100 on each card and gave them as Christmas gifts, but the money was gone by the time her son and daughter tried to use them.
This documentation of gift card purchases was prepared by a Walmart manager on behalf of Carolyn Horne of Hardee's. That's after she realized three $100 cards were useless by the time the gift recipients tried to use them. Carolyn Horn was holiday shopping in December when she stopped at a Walmart on US 460 in Bonesack.

Then, using a Visa credit card issued by Wells Fargo Bank, the grandmother purchased three Walmart-branded Visa gift cards from Hardee's and loaded each with $100. Due to service fees on each card, the total transaction was $316.32. Later, for Christmas, Horne gave one card to her son, another to her daughter, and a third to her stepdaughter.
The cards, which had the Walmart logo on the front, weren't used until Feb. 4, when Horn's son tried to use his gift card to pay for a meal at a local restaurant. Visa declined the transaction because the balance on the card was 5 cents over $100.
After learning about the card, Horne called her daughter and stepdaughter and warned them that there could be something wrong with even unused gift cards. Those concerns are valid. When each woman checked the balance, they found it was zero. A subsequent investigation by Horne and Visa revealed that $99.95 in transactions were made to Horne's son's card on January 23rd at a Harris Teeter store in Charlotte, North Carolina.

On the same date, the other two cards cleared their $100 balances at a Food Lion in North Carolina. Now Horne wants her money back, but Horne didn't call Visa Gift Cards, which advised her to get a refund from Walmart. A manager at Horn's Wells Fargo Bank branch — which issued her a Visa credit card — gave her the same advice.

Horne, 72, said she made "seven or eight visits" to the Bonsack Walmart in an effort to fix it. A manager gave her three Walmart corporate phone numbers to call. Horne said a Walmart employee at one number directed her to another number, which no one answered.
And no one answered the other Walmart corporate numbers that Manager Bonsack gave her. Horn identified the manager who gave him the phone numbers as Kevin Dixton. (She also reported the fraud to the police.) So far, no one has been able to connect Horn with the $316.32 she recovered.
So last week, she turned on yours truly. She sent me photos of scammed cards, photos of her Walmart receipts, and more. But so far, I haven't helped Horn much. Kevin Dixton was not working at Bonsack on Thursday or Monday, I tried several times to reach him by phone each day.
Finally on Monday, I was able to message him. But he did not return the call. On Thursday, I also contacted Walmart through their media relations department, but no one there responded. And I emailed Walmart executives directly, but they didn't respond either. I also did a little sleuthing online, searching with the words "walmart visa gift card scam".
