Pop It Gift Bags
Pop It Gift Bags - I lived in Australia for a while and decided to get up and travel. I ended up in Indonesia looking for waves with a friend. We lived mostly near the city and went to the beach every day. At some point I needed a bag and went to a street vendor.

Pop It Gift Bags
I wanted a vegan backpack and found a pretty rough bag with these unique designs. I brought the bag home and people stopped me on the street in America to tell me how much they liked my bag. Once again I found myself traveling around Sumatra working on a documentary series on natural medicine and healing.
One day I again came across the embroidered designs you see on Banda Bags now. I absolutely had to know where they came from, so I traveled the countryside and met the women who create such unique designs. These were magnificent artisans who designed the curious and unique hand embroidered designs and their craftsmanship amazed me.
I knew immediately that I had to start a collaboration with these women who seemed to create these designs like magic. The search for these magical and unique patterns took me to a village in the Banda Aceh region of Sumatra. If you've been paying attention to the news for the past fifteen years, you'll remember that this was the place hit by the worst tsunami ever recorded in the world.

Traveling Sumatra, Running Into A Unique Design
The earthquake that shook this region literally shook the earth off its axis. The ensuing tsunami devastated the area, killing over two hundred thousand people. I came after that disaster and it was a decade after it happened. Looking around, I can only imagine that it happened only a week ago.
I couldn't believe that this is where these beautiful embroidered designs were born. One day I had the idea that I could take these unique designs out into the world and help these women stuck in a situation that hasn't improved in years. This remote area had very little opportunity to revive its economy, but they had something I knew the world would appreciate.
We worked together to design a cruelty-free vegan bag that can grace the runway as well as the checkout line. The weekend bag was born. Shortly after designing the weekend, we arrived at the Nano. This is a vegan leather bag that really makes a statement.
Then we created a vegan backpack that everyone can wear. The vegan backpack is beautiful and just the right size to carry all your essentials. The shell bag is a unique design that we came up with because we hadn't seen anything like it. There's still nothing else like it.

A Second Run-In
Our vegan wallets take on familiar shapes, but the design is all Banda. We tinker and play with new ideas all the time and want to be one of the most innovative cruelty-free and vegan fashion bags on the planet. Banda Bags helped increase the financial capabilities of those affected by the tsunami.
When I started Banda Bags, I made it the foundation of the company to pay fair wages and ensure the safety and well-being of artisans. I also wanted a durable, cruelty-free bag. The weekend bag and all our styles are made from the highest quality vegan leather.
Banda Bags do not use any animal products, making our bags 100% vegan friendly. Our vegan leather bags are handcrafted from selected materials that we are constantly trying to update. We are currently looking at all ways to make our bags more sustainable for the environment.
This means acquiring materials with a higher amount of recycled content and striving for manufacturing innovation. There are all kinds of cool materials that could one day replace the vegan leather we use today. We're talking about materials made from all natural sources, including pineapple.

The Ravages Of A Tsunami
We are even looking into ways to make threads out of plastic taken from the ocean! I was right when I assumed that people would love the unique designs I found in Indonesia. From the first days of working with the artisans in their remote village to today, many things have happened.
Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition 2017 gave all models a weekend bag along with their gifts. If you read Us Weekly, you may have seen the Banda Bag!
