John Wayne Museum Gift Shop - A visit to Goulding's Lodge is not complete without a visit to the Goulding's Trading Post Museum. The museum opened in 1989 as an exhibition of artifacts and a glimpse into a bygone era. Goulding's Lodge is not just a famous location for Old West movies, it also has a rich history of commerce, tourism and culture.

The Goulding Trading Post Museum consists of several different locations. The first is the "Trading Post Bull Pen", which was the heart of post trading in its glory days. It was a small fair where residents brought their own goods to trade, such as kitchenware, canned goods, materials and yarn, and even weapons.

Most of the current items at Bulla Pen are original, old scales. Next is the Ware Room, which has been in business since then. The place is abundant and full of provisions; raw wool sacks, coffee crates, and chairs are kept here. Today, the Ware Theater is filled with paintings from Golding's early days and 20th century native Navajos.

The cases display historic pottery and other artifacts from various Native American tribes. The "Josef Muench Room" boasts a variety of artists and photography, most notably Joseph Muench, a famous photographer and friend of Goulding's. It was Harry Goulding's pictures of Muench that caught the eye of director John Ford.

This room displays a sample of the Goldings' jewelry, as well as personal items such as their wedding certificates. The "Movie Room" was originally built as a dining area for the crew of The Harvey Girls. Today, it is filled with movie stills, business cards, posters and other items from the Golden Age of Hollywood.

A detailed map of Monument Valley highlights various movie locations, and the John Ford-John Wayne movie always plays here. For a glimpse into Southern privacy, the upstairs "Living Quarters" are presented as closely as possible to how the Gouldings' home appeared in the late 1940s and early 50s.

After Mike Goulding's death in 1992, the area was filled with many of the Gouldings' personal belongings. Although simple in design, this living space was warm, comfortable and inviting - a personal commitment to Harry and Mike's respect and hospitality. Just behind the museum is the Captain Nathan Brittles Cabin, also known as the John Wayne Cabin.

It was actually Mike Goulding's annual pantry where he kept his fruits, vegetables and other perishables. In 1949, when She Wore a Yellow Ribbon was filmed here, the structure was used for exterior shots of the Postmaster General's private rooms, played by Wayne (all interior shots were shot at Hollywood Studios).

The Hollywood troupe is inside the casket, and Crocus is still wearing a still from the tape. The mission of Goulding's Trading Post Museum is twofold. First, each visitor's understanding of the story is instantly etched in memory, enlightened and inspired. Second, to teach visitors to learn about and observe the local Navajo and their way of life.

The Goulding's mission to create college tuition through donations is a way to honor the Gouldings' love for Monument Valley, its people and its many visitors. ©2022 RGJ Corporation | All Rights Reserved COLA Designs Site Design | Site map | Notice of Opportunity When you're in Monument Valley, be sure to stop by Goulding's Gift Shop.

We didn't go through the museum or the Christmas house. Not a big fan of John Wayne, especially now that we know his stock. This is a reason to visit Winterset, IA. We didn't expect a store, a theater, a museum, and the house where John Wayne was born.

This view is more than I expected. Well worth the trip. The John Wayne tribute was so well done that I missed it even more. I loved all the movie props and posters. I also learned new things about him and have been a huge fan for over 50 years.

Road Trip 2020 KINGPIN REVIEW had to stop and see the Little Duke Museum. Hollywood is here!! Because the duke is dead. Like our country. Couldn't have asked for a better experience. Very friendly staff. Better than expected museum with great exhibits. It would be nice to add it to a new section.

A visit to the house of the great leader. The museum turned out to be small and disappointing... and expensive. I asked the leader about Wayne's World War II, and after receiving an answer, I asked about Wayne's World War II. John Wayne was no less than an alcoholic.

Using clandestine activities and stories about his health and family, he escaped slavery. This allowed him to become a huge movie star while all his contemporaries were in office. After the war, he was a leader in the unjust purge of many actors and writers who were forced to rely on the communist controversy of the 1930s.
