To start building your gang in Idle Mafia, you will first need to start a business to earn some money. When you first connect with a new business in the early stages, you can buy it with enough money, but eventually you'll unlock the option to take it on a little harder!
Whichever option you choose, it is now your business and you can reap the profits. The business will generate money within seconds and you have to tap the cash icon to withdraw the money. The business can't generate more money until you come to collect, but that's where Capos come in!
Buying Businesses

Each Capo has a different set of skills that give them strengths and weaknesses. Some Capos are better suited for work, while others are better suited for combat. When a Capo is assigned to a building, it will essentially automate the building. You'll still have to go back and collect money manually, but when Capo triggers it, the money won't stop after the cycle ends - it'll continue to collect money, so you won't have to worry about checking back often.
Capos can only be assigned to certain companies. Gianluca, your starting Capo, can only be assigned to Force-type jobs. Keep this in mind when you are opening many businesses and need to start deciding who should go where. Capos also have special skills that can increase their ability to make money, depending on the type of business they are in.

As redemption costs get higher, it's usually better to opt for street fighting. When you go into battle, you'll select five of your strongest Capos, and the battle will play out automatically. Combat in Idle Mafia is very simple: the team with more power will usually win most of the time.
Check the power levels in the upper corners of the screen - if you're significantly lower than your opponent, go back and level up. Some select Capos have skills that can only be used in combat. Again, our starter Capo Gianluca is a perfect example, as he has two skills that are only used in combat: Sniper, a high-damage single-target attack, and Bullet Spray, a low-damage attack that hits the entire opposing team.

The Right Capo For The Right Job
What currency is that, you ask? Cigars, of course! Cigars are collected as a reward for completing missions, but mostly from completing Cigar Battles. At the beginning of the game you will unlock Cigar Fights. These are special fights unrelated to the main city progression, but completing them rewards you with a ton of cigars.
It's also kind of a quiet game, where your team will fight alone and create cigars over time. Cigar Fights have their own levels and you can progress through them as if you were playing through real fights. The further you go in Cigar Battles, the more cigars your team will produce for you over time.
Be sure to check in periodically to pick up cigars, as your team cannot produce more if your inventory is full. You can also use the "Instant Fight" command once for free each day. This command will immediately take your current team and make them fight battles until they lose the battle.

Depending on how strong your team is, you can go up to ten levels in no time. Keep up with your Cigar Battles, and you should be able to use up all your Capos in no time. When a Capo is upgraded, their income bonus, combat power and HP increase.
Street Fighting
At certain levels, combat skills will also be upgraded if the Capo has them. You can also increase the number of stars Capo has by having duplicates of them from chests. Increasing their stars will increase their maximum level, giving them more potential to gain power.
Better Capos means better money! At rank 7 you gain access to families. Families are predetermined groups of Capos, and if you collect all the Capos in a family, you will activate that family bonus. These bonuses range from extra cash, increased combat power, increased cigar drop, etc. One bonus you should get right away is the "Lightning War" family.
This one requires you to own seven basic Capos and upgrade them to 2 star rank. When you complete this family, you unlock the ability to speed up fights at double speed, making them lightning fast. Since you have no control over what you get from chests, be sure to check your family list periodically to see if you can activate family bonuses.
