Before we turn to the Inventory of Spiritual Gifts, it is important to understand the purpose and function of spiritual gifts, as well as what the scriptures define as a true spiritual gift. Spiritual gifts are NOT just for church leaders or just for physical church growth.

The New Testament promises that spiritual gifts are available to those who believe in Christ. The Apostle Paul used five different Greek words in the word of God to describe a spiritual gift or gifts of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:1-7). There are 3 "types" of spiritual gifts which are divided into miraculous gifts, empowering gifts and missionary gifts.
There is some debate as to whether the miraculous gifts for the church today are or were used as "signs" of the authority of the apostles in the Acts church. We don't want to diminish those gifts, but we also try to be wise about how we direct our attention.
With this in mind, we turn our attention to mission-oriented spiritual gifts because they are the least likely to be misused and are often better placed to be used for the glory of God in the local church. The miraculous gifts include gifts such as tongues and healing.
Spiritual Gifts Test
These gifts are meant to build up the Christian in his relationship with God and with the Church. The four enabling gifts that every Christian seems to have to some degree include discernment, faith, knowledge, and wisdom. Evangelism is communicating the Gospel with the power of the Holy Spirit to those who do not believe in their dire need with the intention of seeing conversions.
These conversions occur when individuals repent of their sin and place their trust in God through Jesus Christ to accept Him as their Savior. Usually people who are converted to serve the Lord decide to join a local church. Those gifted in evangelism are effective in making disciples of different types of people through their personal evangelistic efforts, including personal experiences of God's attributes, different types of Bible studies, or discipleship of people one-on-one or in small groups.

A person with the gift of prophecy "speaks to men for edification, admonition, and comfort" (1 Corinthians 14:3) by exercising this gift. This gift seems to include some measure of the gift of enabling faith (Romans 12:6).
Christians who are gifted in this area are usually able to recognize problems and apply appropriate biblical principles to alleviate the problems. Teaching is communicating biblical principles in the power of the Holy Ghost to others and showing how those principles relate to the specific needs that are represented.
What Are Spiritual Gifts?
Christians who are gifted in learning tend to be diligent students of the Scriptures, who have built a thorough understanding of the Bible and biblical principles as a result of their consistent study habits. Exhortation is encouraging others to act on their belief in God, advising others on how to achieve specific goals in life and ministry, warning others about actions that could be potentially dangerous, and
motivate in Christian life and ministry. Those who are gifted in admonishment generally develop simple strategies for achieving goals and effectively encouraging and motivating others to remain faithful in their service to God. Shepherding is caring compassionately for others in your sphere of influence by providing spiritual guidance, nourishment, and protection from potentially destructive individuals or influences.
They are concerned about the needs of others and passionate about seeing the work of God in the lives of those around them. Those with this gift are quick to express concern for others and are often sought after for spiritual advice and guidance. To show mercy is to discover emotionally stressed and distressed individuals and to serve their emotional needs.

Showers of Mercy express compassion, empathy, and spiritual ministry to ease the inner pain caused by a person's dysfunctional emotional response. Those who have a talent for showing mercy are drawn to hurting people and are somewhat effective at helping others rebuild their lives. Service is discerning and meeting the spiritual and physical needs of individuals.
What Are The Types Of Spiritual Gifts?
Those who are gifted in this ministry support others and are concerned about helping them in any way they can. They often like manual tasks. Giving is investing financial and other resources, such as your time and/or talents, in ways that further God's purposes through individuals and/or ministries.
Donors tend to be generous to financially support a wide variety of ministry projects. Administration is the management of human, physical, and financial resources through planning, organization, leadership, and control. Planning involves projecting the future, setting objectives, developing policies, programs, procedures, and schedules to achieve those objectives, and budgeting adequate resources for the task.
Organizing involves developing an organizational foundation, delegating responsibilities, and establishing interpersonal relationships. Leadership involves making decisions, communicating ideas, and selecting, involving, training, and motivating people. Control involves setting performance standards, then measuring, evaluating, and correcting performance against those standards. People who are talented in administration are effective managers.
In light of the work of the Holy Spirit to give us spiritual gifts, it is important that every Christian discovers his or her spiritual gift, demonstrates it in ministry, and develops it to its fullest possible potential. This will not only strengthen a Christian's personal relationship with God, but will also be an encouragement to the body of Christ.
