Just in case, if you don't know when you bought the gift card or what the original amount was (before you combined it again) they won't combine it the 3rd time.

Right, but at that point, you're paying more per night. So you're essentially buying a gift card at a discount only to pay more per night, which can end up being a wash in terms of net profit.
