You will not be able to take home fresh fruit or flowers that do not have an agricultural label. And please, don't bring lava rocks or you might incur the wrath of Pele! One of Hawaii's leading cookie brands is Kauai Kookie, made in Ele Ele on Kauai's South Shore.
They are sold at all grocery stores, ABC Store, Long's Drugs and many other places. They sell boxes of Hawaiian Cookies in flavors like Almond Cookies, Chocolate Chip Macadamia, Coconut Krispies, Corn Flakes, Guava Macadamia, Kona Coffee Macadamia, Peanut Butter and more. Another popular item is their toast.

They offer homemade garlic toast, artisan taro toast, and (my favorite) double oven cinnamon toast. You can also visit their factory shop where they have special flavors that are not sold in commercial establishments and it is the best price on the island. They also carry other Made on Kauai products, so it's always worth a stop.
If you want to shop local in Kauai, head to the town of Hanapepe. It's full of art galleries and shops with items you won't find anywhere else. One of the best shops in Hanapepe is Banana Patch Studio. They sell a wide variety of art objects such as decorative tiles that tell guests to take off their shoes or contain a Hawaiian blessing.

But they also publish some really cool Hawaiian books for kids! And some of them come with a CD to read with local Hawaiian musicians. They even have a book about President Obama (who grew up in Hawaii!) For over 30 years, Island Soap & Candle Works has been creating handmade soaps, lotions, lip balms, bath salts, candles and other skincare and lifestyle products.
One of their most popular products (and cult favorites) is their Surfer's Salve. Made with all-natural ingredients, Surfer's Salve helps relieve insect bites, sunburns, minor burns, dry skin, scars and rashes. People say it's the only first aid product they keep and it's so portable it can easily fit in a day bag or keep in the car (it doesn't melt).

They are made in Kauai and Bend, Oregon and come in a variety of sizes and some of the most beautiful tropical prints. You can also buy them on Amazon. We discovered Uncle Mikey's Nuts on the Kauai Food Tour and immediately bought 3 bags.
Seriously, it's the tastiest nut I've ever eaten! I think it's because it doesn't use sugar or other additives. It's just dehydrated fruit, plain and simple. The flavors are the same as fresh. It has a dry fruit mix with papaya, mango, pineapple, the famous Kauai apple bananas and coconut that is amazing!
And it's not leather or rubber. She also sells some coconut sweets that I swear are addictive. Very good! You can find Uncle Mikey's Nuts at Foodland in Princeville, ABC Store in Kapaa, Aloha Juice Bar in Hanalei, Healthy Hut in Kilauea and Kauai Store in Kapaa.
One of the trendiest places to shop on Kauai is Warehouse 3540 in Lawai (near Poipu). They have some cute clothing stores, but my favorite is Ivy & Co. The entire store is filled with retro inspired Hawaiian items that are on trend and feel special.
