The SBI and the state were called to help. We spoke with the owner of nearby AJ's Discounts, Meadow Fogle, who tells us that many people live in their stores. "My heart sank because our store is in the city center." They said the windows were blown out and I don't know what else is wrong.
I am worried because this is my brother's shop... he is disabled. I don't know if our friends are okay or not because they live across the street from their shop. It's scary!" says Fogle. Statesville Assistant Fire Chief Glen Kurfis says no one was in the buildings when the fire broke out or lived in the affected stores. Troutman, Mooresville, Hickory and West Iredell were among the multiple agencies that responded.
About 75 personnel from those departments were on the scene in addition to EMS, police and the mayor's office. American Renaissance School in downtown Statesville was closed Tuesday due to the school's proximity. School administrators say the building was not damaged.
