This is his great secret. Every good gift basket needs a purpose. It can be related to a holiday or a special event, but the "why" theme applies just as well. "If I wanted to do something for my friend and it wasn't his birthday, it wasn't Christmas, I'd be like - what would he like to do?" Stephanie said.

Start with the heaviest items at or near the back of the basket and work your way up. You can use crepe paper to add volume: "It takes up space and makes it look better," says Stephanie. Alternatively, select a job opening. "Try socks, bathing suits, beach towels, dish towels—things you can pack but reuse," she says.
