However, that time will inevitably come. Euthanasia is a personal choice that pet owners choose as a way to make a difference to their pet in a gentle and peaceful way. The procedure consists of a series of two injections. The first will be an injectable sedative that will allow your partner to enter a calm, relaxed and pain-free state.
It may take a few minutes to get the desired effect. Once your dog is in the desired state of sleep, the second medication is administered intravenously. There are several veins that are best used based on their size and location. We want to use the tank on the back leg so that we don't interfere with your partner.
Sometimes, however, we need to make other choices because some veins can become dysfunctional due to damage from chemotherapy, catheter placement, or low blood pressure. This second injection works very quickly and stops breathing and stops the heart from beating. During this time, involuntary movements or noises may occur while your partner is sleeping.

They may snore or pedal as if they were asleep. Opening their eyes is very normal. Sometimes they can take their last deep breath. They may expel urine or bowel contents. This is only a possible list; So it could be some, all or none of these.
Because every euthanasia is unique, we cannot predict everything that may happen. We will do everything we can to provide you and your partner with as much peace and comfort as possible during this transition. Health does not hurt. If you've ever been sedated for surgery, it's very similar.

Before euthanasia, we inject a sedative into the muscle or under the skin to relieve stress, anxiety and/or pain. A sedative injection is similar to an injection. Depending on their sensitivity, some partners feel the pinch of the first needle and can look at us.
Others don't notice at all. Some pets with central nervous system disease (eg, brain tumors, delusions, etc.) may be more vocal at first. We do our best to minimize any discomfort by using new needles, fast-acting medications, and compassion. One of the most common questions we get is, "How do I know when it's time for my dog or cat to go to bed?"

We truly believe in decisions based on quality of life. Your partner and your partner. You and your family will be the best to judge when it is time to please your partner. Everyone has different ideas about quality of life. For some, this happens when their partner stops eating, wagging their tail, or crying, and for others, it can happen after a terminal diagnosis.
Some other things to consider are: Can they do the things they always enjoy? Is he happy to see you and play? Can they go out and relieve themselves with their dignity and respect? Although we cannot make this decision for you, we are always available by phone to discuss your questions and listen to your concerns.
Pet caregivers can use this quality of life scale to determine the success of Pawsspice care. Rate patients using a scale of: 0 to 10 (10 being the best). Dr. Reprinted with permission from Alice Villalobos and Willie-Blackwell. Alice Villalobos, DVM, DPNAP, a renowned veterinary oncologist, introduced the PawSpice program for quality of life for sick pets. Pawspice begins with a diagnosis and includes symptom management, standard gentle care and a transition to hospice when the animal is near death.
Dr. Villalobos developed this scoring system to help family members and veterinary teams assess the quality of life of pets. This is a big change for them too. We welcome other companions to your home to be present during your visit. We've found that even aggressive dogs who want to steal our attention often settle down on their own after a few minutes and give us the space we need.
That being said, the decision is up to you and if you feel the presence of your other pets will distract or cause you stress, they can be accommodated elsewhere during our visit. Cremation is an old, traditional, clean and quick method of disposing of a loved one's body: the animal is gently placed into the crematorium, the door closed until the cremation is complete and the remains are carefully removed.
Burning takes about two hours on average. An individual cremated body is placed in an urn chosen by the owner. An official certificate of cremation is attached. Most importantly, we take care of returning the ashes in person, not by mail. Final Journey offers public and private cremation services.
We use Final Gift Cremation (finalgift.com). With shared cremation, multiple partners share the same cremation space. public crematoria (remains) are not returned to the family. The crematorium has a beautiful "Garden of Memories" in its facility, where the crematoriums are scattered. Private cremation is for families who wish to have their partner's cremation(s) returned to them.
