Improve the material used to imbue a standard weapon with fire, adding fire damage but removing all scaling. Consumable item that gives 2000 souls when consumed. Souls do not disappear until the item is used. Significantly increases item detection by 60 seconds after using a consumable item.

Invasion is especially common in the early game, so you'd think they'd be high. The point is that it is impossible to raid up to a high wall, and there you can get the red eyeball - not the cracked version, but the infinite use version.
This is done via Leonhardt's questline, which can be found in Firelink after getting the second bonfire on the high wall. After only 3 steps in his quest line, you can grab the red eyeball for yourself and attack to your heart's content! So this funeral gift is pointless, but there are many other options.

Even if you only use spells, you don't need Hidden Blessing - that's just how weak it is. Divine Blessings are the HP version of Hidden Blessings - they heal you completely and cure status ailments. While the hidden blessing isn't that bad, you still only get one.
It is a complete cure. It's a real lifesaver, but it's so contextual and limited that you forget you have it, run it when you don't need it, or think it's too good to use. And in a rare situation, it could save your life - nice!

But now that's gone... Spirit is just another plug-it-and-forget-it situation, except this one actually has a lasting effect! Soul, as you can imagine, gives you souls - 2000 of them! You can use it to buy starter gear or consumables, or get extra levels to help you set up your build early!
However, you can always take a few minutes to raise a few extra souls if you want. They are literally the easiest to get in the game. Life Ring is a good choice for players who are honest with themselves and expect an extra hit here and there.
Rusted Gold Coin[]
Equipping it gives +7% max HP which can be the difference between life and death in most cases! The power it provides means you don't have to hit HP as quickly, allowing you to invest your stats elsewhere! And no matter how limited the rings are at the beginning of the game, you can wear them for a long time, so you will get a lot of money for your funeral gift.
It may not be the most elegant or interesting, but it is reliable! Black fireballs are one of those things you'll never buy, but are glad you did. These are really useful against a lot of enemies, but are especially effective at shutting down dog teleports and men early game, which instantly kills King's Puss.
Using them on the punch will also get you some early titanite pieces! This helps trigger the weapons a little earlier. Additionally, these fireballs will destroy Gundir in his second phase, which is great for new players. And it's not just the early game - trading a black fireball with a raven on a fire link will net you a chunk of titanite!

Instead, it's an automatic peace offering to the giant in the undead settlement, meaning he'll never aim his giant arrows at you! Of course, you can talk to him before going to the Cursed Rotten Greatwood, but this item saves you the trip and greatly simplifies the beginning of the game.
Looking back at our list of the best potions, raw potions are the best for the early game because leveling up your low physical stats won't affect your weapon damage! A fire gem avoids this by removing all scaling from your weapon, giving you nice fire damage instead.
This frees up your starting levels for more useful stats like strength or stamina. Also, fire damage (like fireballs) completely shuts down human and dog mobs, which can be the most annoying enemies at low levels!
