Choctaw Gift Shop - The Hvshi Gift Shop, located in the main lobby of the Cultural Center, offers guests a wide variety of souvenirs to celebrate Choctaw culture and commemorate their visit. The Choctaw Cultural Center is conveniently located off Highway 75 in Calera, Oklahoma. Nearby, guests will also find the Choctaw Nation Headquarters, dining and entertainment options, and Travel Plazas.

On display from July 2021 to June 1, 2022 In the evolving exhibition gallery, you will find the exhibition Long ago: Stories of the Choctaw People. This temporary exhibition demonstrates the importance and art of oral storytelling. For a long time, stories were the primary source of history preservation among the Choctaw.
These traditional stories have been carried forward so that we can remember the world as our ancestors knew it. This exhibition will take you on an adventure, allowing you to interact with the traditional stories themselves. The Long Ago exhibition will be on display from July 2021 to June 2022. Funding for this exhibition was provided in part by the Chahta Foundation.
Indigenous community members and scholars have long criticized the colonial origins of many collections and argued that institutions have collaborated with indigenous communities. US laws, such as the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act of 1990, have also raised awareness of collectibles and encouraged such collaboration.

Today, the Choctaw are working to reconnect with Choctaw people who live outside of our community to recover and revitalize our ancestral knowledge and traditions. Like our ancestors, the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma carries on the legacy of maintaining Choctaw culture and sharing our rich history with the world.
The third largest tribe in the United States, the Choctaw Nation has renewed its political and economic power and has become a powerful presence and force in American life today. Despite the removal of our ancestral lands beginning in 1831 and massive changes in our political structure due to US colonialism, the Choctaw have persevered and maintained our way of life to this day.
Today the Department of Historic Preservation of the Choctaw Nation provides educational programs in traditional arts and ways of life such as pottery, tanning, textiles, food, games and language. The National Park Service has awarded $88,822 to the Mississippi Department of Archives and History to support efforts to return Native American human remains in its archaeological collections to current tribes.
MDAH will use the money to hire a new collection manager, provide paid internships for tribal partners, purchase equipment and provide staff training. The Chickasaw Nation and the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma supported the grant and provided guidance as MDAH staff documented human remains and ceremonial items from graves in northeast Mississippi.

The Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act requires consultation with the tribes whose ancestors lived on the land where the graves were located. One of the department's top priorities is the proper care of its significant archaeological collection, said MDAH Director Katie Blount. In keeping with our standards of excellence, we are undertaking this project with a renewed dedication to partnering with the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma and the Chickasaw Nation by becoming fully NAGPRA.
The Redstick Gallery is owned by the Muscogee Nation, a federally recognized tribe based in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, and is operated by the Cultural Center and Archives Department. This imposing red brick structure was built in 1884 and served as the capital of the Choctaw Nation until 1907. Today, it is on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Choctaw Nation Tribal Court is still held there. The museum features exhibits on Choctaw history before European contact, the Trail of Tears, Choctaw life in Oklahoma, the Lighthorsemen, Choctaw Code Talkers, Choctaw baskets, a gift shop selling fine art made by Choctaws and much more.

They also serve as a bridge for us and for those who shared the same world and time as these objects and the relationships with distant nations that brought them to Paris.
