Can I Use A Vanilla Visa Gift Card For Gas
Can I Use A Vanilla Visa Gift Card For Gas - A friend gave me a $25 Visa Vanilla gift card for my birthday. I made a purchase of about $55 and asked the merchant to purchase a gift card. He paid for the entire purchase when it was established. The next day I went online to check my balance as I was a bit confused as to why he was paying the full amount when it was a $25 card.

Can I Use A Vanilla Visa Gift Card For Gas
My card still showed a $25 balance. Thinking there was a mistake at the store (it was out of stock, not a returnable place), I decided to use the $25 I still showed as the balance and leave. All payments are now displayed on the card.
My question is who am I paying and how do they know who I am? I made my last purchase on amazon.com so they can actually track me down, but how would they find me if I didn't? What are the possible consequences if I do nothing?
I just want to pay the $53 I owe and be done with it because they don't want me to find them in 6 years and tell me I now owe $600 because of crazy interest rates. Any ideas or tips? Well thank you! The complaint has been investigated and the customer is satisfied.

ADDRESS to previous post: I called the people with the Visa gift card and the person I spoke with told me that it was not my responsibility and that I should not worry about being overcharged. He told me I could throw my card away and not be held responsible because the merchant didn't have to pay for it - it was a problem in the merchant's system.

Just an FYI for those wondering lol. I have the same problem now. I have several Visa gift cards and they are all the same. I accidentally gave the cashier the wrong one, but the charge went through without a problem. I didn't realize it was the wrong card until I checked my balance online.
In short, my negative balance is about $14. I have no problem paying it, I would stick it to another gift card, but never pay for overage fees (if any) because the card should have been declined in the first place. I wonder if Visa is doing anything about it (or not).
They "say" on their site that gift card users are responsible if there are overcharges, but they don't know what steps will be taken or how to pay those overcharges or who to contact LOL. I wonder if this is some kind of technical glitch - I have no problem canceling my Vanilla Visa gift card.

They have my information (which can easily be changed) because I used it to make an online purchase, but how do they know I was charged? What if I threw it in the trash and some homeless person picked it up and used it? So my point is, if Visa can't ensure that their cards are properly declined when they run out of funds, how can we as consumers protect them when they're disposed of, if they're overused, and we're liable?
I can call them and ask about the situation, but I don't think they will do anything about it. Not a few dollars - maybe thousands of dollars that they might notice, but not less than twenty. This is my opinion of course, but in the comments of all the people I found online asking the same questions as the poster, NO ONE admitted to charging the gift card - I'm talking about the seller of the Visa gift cards, not the retailer .

Having the same problem now, I got a $25 vanilla visa card for Christmas last year and left the card with $6 on itunes to buy a few songs with the remaining balance... I accidentally bought the entire CD for 12 USD and he allowed me to buy the card for just 6 rupees.
So my question is? Even if they don't know who I am, will I pay for this excess? Or will iTunes charge me? Interesting that you should post this. The same thing happened to me with an American gift card. I received a small bonus ($25) at work and had to return the card online.

I had to provide my personal information to send the card. I was equally impressed when I used the card and it covered all the charges. I even told the cashier that I owed the balance, their card was not good for the full amount.
He assured me that there was no additional charge and that he couldn't charge me the difference he thought he owed because I didn't have a balance. I thought I would receive the balance payment in the mail. It was the end of October. Ironically, I have a regular BOA card that I only use for balance transfers (never new purchases) and the charges showed up on my CC statement.
As you can imagine I was a bit upset. My CC company was stupid and said it was possible and told me what to do to fix the problem. Wow, they didn't even tell me the cost of the card was $25. I was wondering if your friends card is also charged.

I bought this gift card in the US and this year I tried to use it for an online purchase and I couldn't use it, I went to check online and it doesn't seem to work.
Since then I have called customer service 5 times and had to sit on the phone for an hour or more to get hold of someone. I spoke to several reps and was told that the card was damaged and that they would get all my information to send me a new card, when I got the address over the phone the calls dropped, 3x.
I have not used this card and I don't know how this card was hacked. Since then I have been trying to get to the controller with no success. I keep trying, it's really frustrating. We bought a Vanilla MasterCard gift card three months ago but could not use it to pay online.
