The smell of donuts and freshly brewed coffee wafted through Via Flagler on Friday morning, marking another step in the revitalization of Royal Poinciana Way in Palm Beach. "We envisioned what this area once was. Now we're bringing back the energy and the fun," said David Frisby, co-owner of The Breakers' new cafe and trendy boutique, Main Street by The Breakers.

Frisby and his wife, Susan, were the first customers when the doors opened at 6:30 a.m. at the former Testo restaurant. The Testa building, along with an empty gas station and shopping area, was demolished and replaced by Via Flagler, which also includes the Breakers' Henry's restaurant.

The development consists of three buildings facing the sunny avenue. Each apartment has a second floor living space and a first floor retail space. At Friday morning's opening, Main Street customers chose from five flavors of handmade mini-doughnuts, as well as coffee, pastries, sandwiches, smoothies, ice cream and gelato.

The rest is for merchandise, ranging from a $6 pack of cocktail napkins to a $1,000 designer lamp. "We're a coffee shop meets a modern boutique. You can sit and read your paper. Do some shopping. Hang out with your friends," said business manager Joseph Marrone, pointing to one of the shop's 15-hand-filled tables.

SHAN, Montreal's destination for swimwear and ready-to-wear. The businesses are part of The Breakers' $30 million annual investment in Palm Beach, said Sarah Flight, director of communications for the North Tower.

The opening of off-site locations, The Breakers, will allow the hotel brand to expand and create new experiences for hotel guests as well as Palm Beach residents and visitors, Flight said.

History is being preserved and modernized to match modern times," he said. It's refreshing to have more stores on Royal Poinciana Road, said Lisa Ehrenkranz, a resident who was on her daily trip to Publix when she decided to try Main Street. "Opening this store is another step forward for this neighborhood. It's so much better than the empty stores I see back home in New York," Ehrenkranz said.

Took a tour of The Breakers on a lazy February weekend. It was easy to get tickets, show them to the person at the door who scans them, and take your audio tour. The docents who work here are very serious about their responsibilities, but very helpful.

I didn't feel well for a few moments and they let me cut the wrapped area to get some air. The audio tour is excellent and descriptive, and you can make it longer or shorter by adding some highlights for each room. I think it took us about 90 minutes to get through.

The audio tour was full of history, anecdotes and experts. It is included in your ticket. The gift shop is fantastic and has some of the coolest stuff! There is a separate children's section with toys, books and some sweets. It is mainly a decorative and broken object.

They also have a satellite store in Bowen Beach that has many of the same items. Note that the gift shop and bathroom (in the back) are down a flight of stairs that can be accessed at the end. Tour (exit through the gift shop) or out.

They have elevators that access every floor of the house. This tour is well worth the time and everyone can enjoy it! Although there are many problems with the old way of life that this house represents, there is something sad about walking past this beautiful house, where you can almost still see glimpses of life, but is clearly an old and static museum.

I'm not usually a fan of audio tours, but they do a fantastic job of weaving in social, political, and art/architectural history. We had a great time at the museum. Audio tours are great - especially for kids. The information provided at each station is long enough to provide some interesting facts, but not so long as to lose children's attention.

The staff was very friendly and the grounds are beautiful and spacious. The winter tour was great - people controlled and plenty of room to look carefully at the details of each room. Food and drinks, cats and photography are not allowed. It was a bit of a disappointment;
