I assure you that if you read and use this tutorial, you'll be ready to make the most amazing gift tags for any occasion (yes all!). Ideally, you'll want to read this tutorial from the beginning, because as we go along, we'll implement the concepts mentioned in the preview steps.
In a nutshell, here are the techniques you will learn today: Note: In this article, I assume you know some basic things like changing colors, resizing an image, etc. feel lost at some point, please check out the full Cricut My Design Space tutorial. The easiest way to create gift tags in Cricut Design Space is to use molds.
If you are in a hurry and want to cut something very quickly, this is the option that will help you get the job done quickly. To add a shape, click the "Shapes" button on the left panel of the canvas and choose the option you want to use (I choose a circle), then repeat the same step and add a circle for the hole label.
How To Make Gift Tags Using Shapes
Resize the shape (what you want your gift tag to be) and the label hole circle and place it over the shape. When you're happy with the placement of the hole, select both shapes and click the "Cut Out" button at the bottom of the Layers panel.

When you are done cutting, remove the unwanted parts and you now have your tag. Tip: Explore and create other variations of gift tags by unlocking the proportions of your shape (select it on the canvas and click the small padlock in the right corner of the selection).
When adding text, the default setting is "Cut"; but the idea of tags is to write on it. To tell your machine that you want to draw, you need to change the "Line Type" (located on the top panel of the canvas) from "Cut" to "Draw".
Read more about fonts on my How to edit text in Cricut Design Space. Here's the caveat though, if you change the line type of the font from "Cut out" to "Draw" you will have an underlined font. If you want to write in a handwritten style, use Cricut Fonts.
Step 1 – Add Shapes And Create The Tag
You can quickly see if a font has a font style by selecting it and then clicking the Style drop-down menu in the top panel of the canvas. If the font has the Writing font, you know you can use it for handwritten projects. When you choose to write, your Cricut will automatically change the line type from Cut to Draw.
When you're done with the text, place it over the gift tag, then select both layers (text and shape) and click "Attach" at the end of the Layers panel. Find out how different shapes would look if you used them as gift tags! Although creating labels with shapes is quick and easy, they can also be quite simple.

After all, isn't that why you have a Cricut in the first place? In this step I will teach you how to make a personalized gift tag using simple shapes. Step 1: Add a rectangle (must unlock the proportions of a square), two circles and a heart.
Step 2: Resize one of the circles and copy it (Ctrl+V/Cmd+V) until you have three exact copies. Then arrange the circles like the screenshot above. Step 3: "Weld" the circles and overlap them (two thirds apart) with the gift tag. Make sure they line up perfectly.
Step 2 – Add Text To Your Gift Tag
Note: Weld is located at the bottom of the layer panel. Step 5: Resize the heart and the second circle. Use the top circle for the gift tag hole and the heart for the bottom decoration. Step 6: Select the beacon and the circle and click "Slice".
Repeat with your heart. (Remove unnecessary items) Step 7: Add text, select the tag and text and click "Attach". If you want to learn everything you can do with shapes in Cricut Design Space, be sure to read my helpful guide. If you have Cricut access or like to purchase images from the Cricut library, you can find gift tags that are ready to cut.
They are beautiful and they have hundreds of options to use! To find ready-made gift tags, click the "Images" button on the left panel of the canvas and type "tag" in the search field on the right of the window. By filtering with the word "tag", you'll find tons of options.

Don't be limited, though; I encourage you to also use words like Christmas, Valentine's Day, Birthday, etc. When you find the gift tag you want to use, click on it and then "Insert Images" to insert them onto your canvas. At this point you can add text as I showed you above, or click Create to cut them right away.
Step 3 – Use Shapes To Create Custom Gift Tags
You can also create gift tags using fonts. They are cute, but honestly, I don't recommend you use this method. I love it when you make banners (read my tutorial) because Cricut Access has "banner fonts", yet the tag fonts in Design Space are premium fonts and I think you can get a lot more out of the images Cricut.
If you still want to use this technique, you need to find the right fonts first. Start by adding a single word, then click on the font menu and type "tag" in the search menu and choose what you like. Once you've chosen the font you like, follow the next steps.
Step 1: Add a letter and select the tag font you want to use. Step 3: Select both copies and click "Align" on the top panel and select the "Center" option; when centered, select the two copies and click "Weld". Step 4: Click on the outline (located at the bottom of the layers panel) and hide the letter.
Learn more about "Contour" on my helpful guide. Step 5: Add handwriting style text and other shapes you want to use (change the shape line type to "Character"). I bought the font and this is how it looks when cut. Another technique and one of my FAVORITES is to make gift tags using the Print Then Cut setting in Cricut Design Space.
