There are non-stop overnight buses from Medan to Banda Aceh that take 9-13 hours. Major bus companies such as PMTOH, Pelangi, Kurnia and Pusaka have their offices on Jl. Gaja Mada, Madan. Prices range from Rs 110,000 for a regular bus to Rs 200,000 for a wide seater bus.

Minibuses can take you from the Medan area to Banda Aceh, but the journeys are usually longer. The prices are a little cheaper than the coach. You can also reach Banda Aceh from Medan via Kutakan and Takengon. It will be 20 hours in total.
