For about two hours, I tried out the game's new mechanics, solved puzzles, and even had a boss fight that instantly kicked my ass.
Here is a summary of my thoughts, both good and bad, about Kingdom Tears. "Tears of the Kingdom" encourages more experimentation and creativity than ever before. Most of the game is spent with fun ways to travel from place to place. You can walk, climb, ride, or if you're me, tie five rockets to a hat and pray.
Whichever way you go, you will encounter new enemies, characters, puzzles and more. you will see The broader your ideas, the better. There is no wrong way to play. The biggest new feature in the game is "Ultrahand", a feature that allows Link to create items, including living creatures like Korox, to create vehicles and other tools.
The Good: 'Tears Of The Kingdom' Puts Your Imagination To The Test
As confusing as the skills seemed at first, I was happy to find the structure relaxing and fun. While some vehicles are better than others, almost everything you build has a specific purpose. There's also a big tactical element to the construction system: when you want to separate one object from another, you move the joystick quickly, like you're trying to pull something out of a sticky pot.

It's wonderful. And if you don't want to spend time building things, there is an option that makes the process much faster and easier. This game is another way to let you play as much as you want. There are other enemies! Four main types of wild enemies have been added with new creatures and new bosses.
I spent over 15 minutes fighting a new boss called Flux Construct and still can't figure out how to beat him. Before we started playing, a Nintendo representative held the controller to demonstrate some of the key features. By accident, he attached a rocket to the lake he was building - the raft suddenly launched into the air, causing him to scream in shock and send Link flying.
I immediately wrote in my notebook: "People are going to ruin this game." When game systems are so complex that a Nintendo employee loses control of them, you can count on die-hard fans to push things further and even come up with strategies the developers didn't think of.
The Bad: Poor Performance And Shallow Mechanics Break Immersion
It seems like players spend hundreds of hours on this game and still haven't found all its secrets. I love seeing the viral wrecks, flashy cars, and fast Strats that pop up as soon as they hit the shelves. Kingdom Tears is clearly testing the limits of the six-year-old Nintendo Switch.
Using your abilities in crowded areas, running through tall grass, and climbing trees caused severe lag during gameplay, dropping performance to about 10 FPS. It's not as bad as other Switch titles, but it's a bad flaw on a beautiful game. I also doubt Link's other new ability, Fuse, which allows you to fuse your sword and shield with almost anything in the world.

Some combos give your weapon special abilities, like turning your shield into projectiles. It also allows you to repair your weapon, solving one of the most common criticisms in Breath of the Wild. But this function also looks sad. Most combos give you a small boost in attack power, and even combos that cause special effects are highly recyclable.
While it's nice to come up with creative ways to defeat your enemies, you'll end up winning most battles without thinking. I hope the full game will have more special combos. Finally: the game controls are confusing. Most buttons are used at least three times, depending on where and which other buttons you hold.

Remembering how everything works can be difficult, especially if you come from other open world games like Elden Ring. Note: I reached out to Nintendo for comment on these criticisms, but did not receive a response prior to publishing this article. It's been four years since Nintendo first announced Tears of the Kingdom.
After a short time of playing the game, I'm more excited than ever. Tears of the Kingdom is huge and despite some performance issues in my session, it's engaging enough to keep you occupied for hours without noticing. In terms of enemy variety, map size and story, it looks like it will be even bigger than Breath of the Wild, which was already a massive game.
There's so much we haven't seen yet! I am willing to spend days on this game. And if the rest of the game is as good as this demo, it might just be the best game of 2023. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will be released on May 12.
