Just as the Alien Hunter mission brought Central Officer Bradford to the battlefield, Shen's Last Gift has Chief Engineer Lily Shen joining in on the action. Early in the game, before completing the first Advent Blacksite mission, Shen picks up a strange sign in the only way her father knew how to use it.
He gives the coordinates of a secret but apparently abandoned Advent robotics facility where Shen is investigating. Shen is a powerful specialist with combat hacking skills far beyond what your early-game troops will have. Her ability to deal with mechanical enemies is extremely useful during missions, as the abandoned robotics facility is - unsurprisingly - infested with robots.

Luckily, you'll get some boosters along the way with your first SPARK. SPARK is the ultimate title gift from Dr. Shen, chief engineer of XCOM: Enemy Unknown and Lily's father. Apparently, a prototype built by Dr. Shen here as a model for all Advent Mech soldiers.

However, when you release the original mid-mission, it will join your party to help you, and then you can build more on the created land. Like the Advent mechs, SPARK is a large battle droid that deals serious damage. Standing head and shoulders above other soldiers, their size prevents them from taking advantage of their cover bonuses, but instead make up for it with armor.
Like power armored soldiers, SPARKs can equip themselves with heavy weapons made of earth. They also fire a heavy cannon that breaks armor, similar to grenadier attacks. Adding a touch of utility, SPARK also comes with its own little flying robot, BIT, which can be hacked remotely, just like specialists do, albeit with much lower skill.
All of their gear can be upgraded along with other classes related to your research. SPARK levels up and gains skills from two parallel skill trees like all other standard classes. Each SPARK starts with an Overdrive, which allows it to perform three actions in one turn without completing any action until all three have been spent.
However, multiple attacks are hampered by a 15 percent withdrawal penalty after each consecutive shot. It has four turns of cooldown. Like the Advent mechs, SPARK is a large battle droid that deals serious damage. War Machine's skill tree encourages a more aggressive playstyle by utilizing Overdive and Adaptive Aim, removing the recycling penalty and destroying the orb, allowing it to blast through walls and obstacles while Overdrive.
