NewsChannel 9's Andrew Donovan took a gift card and tried to buy $30 baby shoes from LittleWanderers.com. Even though a $30 credit was due, the website still asked for credit card information to cover the $18 shipping fee.
Although the scheme is not necessarily illegal, online stores sell genuine products, research shows that the company makes the money by offering credit, but charges extra for shipping that is not covered by the gift card. That result matches complaints filed with the Better Business Bureau from customers who were asked for more shipping than those who didn't use gift cards.
