When he opened it, someone named "Jenny B." congratulated Christina on the birth of a child. The only problem: Christine is not pregnant. And he doesn't know "Jenny Bee."

This immediately made Christine suspicious of the nearly $250 worth of gift cards that came with the envelope. A receipt was attached to make it look genuine and listed gift cards from a website called Thoughtful Gift Cards. Gift cards look authentic and are an obvious advantage of online stores such as Little Wanderers, Pregnancy Pillow, Custom Snappies, Udder Covers and Canopy Couture.
NewsChannel 9's Andrew Donovan took one of the gift cards and tried to buy $30 worth of children's shoes at LittleWanderers.com. With $30 left in credit, the website still asked for credit card information to cover the $18 shipping fee. While the scheme isn't necessarily illegal, and the online stores sell real products, research shows the company is making money by pretending to offer credit but charging more for shipping that isn't covered by gift cards.

The same result is consistent with complaints to the Better Business Bureau from customers who were charged more for shipping than if they hadn't used gift cards. All of the businesses listed on the gift cards are operated by Mothers Lounge, which did not respond to NewsChannel 9's request for comment.
