In addition, the B&N exclusive edition of the book comes with a poster of Puffin and Young Puffin III [2] . Dangerous Gift is preceded by Poisonous Jungle and followed by Flame of Hope. Snowfall never expected to be Queen of Icewings at such a young age, but now she is, she will be the best queen ever.
All she has to do is keep her tribe in Icewing territory where it's safe - and keep all the other tribes away where they belong. It's a perfect and simple plan, backed by a wall of ice rock, and every bit of ice wing magic can collect a snowfall.
Perfect, that is, an undetected storm of dragons flying out of the sea in search of shelter. The aliens are absolutely grotesque, and the avalanche is absolutely, absolutely incredible. But when she takes the hapless new tribes from her kingdom, the young queen is forced to rethink her plan.
Quote On Back Of Hardcover
Maybe she can keep her tribe safe...if she's willing to risk it all. "If it's not true, and we're going to attract hundreds of visitors to prove it!" The lynx almost danced on its hooves. An avalanche wanted to collapse the mountain on her. "What if they had extra killer superpowers that we never thought of?"

We can't worry about it until it actually happens," Lynx said. "Yes we can!" Avalanche screamed. "I'm regretting it now!" And to Piria-Pantala AU, with hugs and fear for all your lovely dragons. The prologue takes place a few days after the Leafwings and some Silkwings escape Pantala.
Swordtail wakes up and remembers the events of the previous day, including how the two armies at the river burned the Poison Jungle and how he searched for Cricket while she was under the control of the other, but was unable to find her. He saw that Blue was fast asleep, and just as he went to wake him up, the other man took possession of Swordtail's mind again, deliberately blocking his attempt to reunite with his friend.
Realizing that he cannot read his mind, Cricket and Nightingale find their way to distant realms and find Luna, who he hopes will return to save him and Blue. Avalanche hears about a horde of dragons flying towards her kingdom. She asks the scout who reported the sighting if he's sure it wasn't nightwings, and he says no black dragons were seen.
Part One: Blizzards And Buried Magic
She thinks of several possibilities, such as a group of Rainwings flying towards them even though the Darkstalker is gone. After telling Scout to look again, Tundra appears and informs Snowfall that it's time to rearrange the names on the Order's gift. Snowfall reflects on her experience as queen and after what she lost to gain it, finds that it is what she loves most in the world.
She mentions that she thought the Order's gift was good for the kingdom, but realizes it's more of a twisted revenge than a gift, and hates how her names are transferred every night. Avalanche wears its crown, rocking twin names like hail and permafrost. Tundra questions how little she changed names and Snowfall orders her to leave, wanting to deal with the mysterious dragons as soon as possible.

She remembers that Tundra and Narwhal were Glacier's second-in-command and that Tundra hated bowing to her niece. Avalanche hears a noise in the yard and realizes that someone is watching him. She orders the dragon to reveal itself, preparing to use its icy breath on them.
Lynx appears from the Light Tree and Snowfall asks if she's spying on her, surprised when Lynx jokingly confirms that she is. Lynx says he's worried about him and that the only dragons Snowfall talks about today are "old, bossy and mean". Snowfall brags that she's ready to be queen for the rest of her life, while Lynx says she didn't expect to be queen for at least two decades.
Part Two: Sanctuary And Scavengers
A flashback is shown with the then Ice Queen on her deathbed from the plague, with Snowfall, Crystal and Mink by her side. Glacier emphasizes that she does not want a war of succession like the Sandwings and makes her daughters promise not to challenge each other for the throne and to support whoever she chooses as queen.
After all three do, she names Snowfall as the next queen. The next morning, Crystal leaves the kingdom, causing Snowfall to wonder if she is plotting against him. Lynx suggests Snowfall take a break and she refuses, shouting that her sister is going undercover to kill her and that the "evil" Mysterious Dragons will probably arrive tomorrow, wondering if Crystal and the Mysterious Dragons are working together.
When Queens Coral and Glory work together to overthrow her. Lynx tries to reason with her, asking why anyone would want another war so soon after the Sandwing Legacy War, but Snow is paranoid. She then tells Lynx that the unidentified dragons are coming from the Western Sea, and Lynx realizes that they may have come from the Lost Continent.

She offers Snowfall a plan: they fly to the coast to meet them and find out who they are and what they want to do. Avalanche reluctantly agrees and decides to go to the Forbidden Vault to see if the gifts of the Animus will help her.
Part Two: Sanctuary And Scavengers
As she walks towards the hideout, she sees Mink talking to some of her guards. She presents Snowfall with a mink carved from a small block of ice and asks if she can enter the royal chambers, stammering that she slept with her mother when she had trouble sleeping.
Agreeing to her request, Snowfall insists that the guards not let anyone into the room tonight, and she pushes the bed away, revealing a hole underneath that leads to the hideout. She orders Mink not to tell anyone about this and they watch the area.
Avalanche recognizes a small turban, a gift of strength, and wears it on her head. Rejecting the compromising gift upon seeing it, she notices an opal ring engraved with the words "Gift of Sight" in one of the niches. She puts the ring on the claw, thinking it will improve her eyesight.
Passing by part of the gift of insight, Snowfall sees a set of pale silver bracelets studded with diamonds, and upon reading the inscription, gives the dragon invaders an unwelcome surprise. She sets out for the coast at dawn with a trot and five guards.
