The landscape was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted Jr. The Bishop's Garden is named after the cathedral's first bishop, Henry Yates Satterley. The five-acre Olmsted Forest features stone walkways, Pilgrim Ways, meditation circles, native wildflowers and shrubs, and many migratory birds. The outdoor amphitheater serves as a venue for outdoor services.
During the Christmas season, you can take guided tours, listen to festive music, put up Christmas decorations and attend church services. South of the cathedral is the most intensively cultivated area in the region. Five acres of oak and hickory woodlands include stone walkways, contemplative circles, native wildflowers and the adjacent All Hallows Amphitheater. The 57-hectare St Albans Hill surrounding the cathedral is known as 'The Close'.
In recent years, our fundraising efforts have allowed the Guild to invest over $6 million in improving and maintaining the gardens and grounds. The celebration is held on the first Friday and Saturday of May. Members of the All Hallows Guild Garden Committee will work with cathedral gardeners to identify gardens and grounds in need of improvement or restoration.
