Visa gift cards usually come with a PIN and can be used to top up Bluebird/Serve etc. Sometimes we want to buy $500 Visa gift cards online. For what? In these scenarios, we are left to find where to buy Visa gift cards online... Interestingly, Visa actually has an online page that lists all the places.
Here's a look: There are only eight options in total to choose from. Additionally, five of the eight are pot options; You can only purchase a gift card from them if you have an account. And they'll probably only let you pay from a checking account.
Or they may allow the credit card and purchase code to not earn points. For the main options, there are three left: GiftCard.com, GiftCardMall.com and GiftCards.com. First of all, remove GiftCard.com. Although they do sell Visa gift cards, the cards are limited to $250 each and the price is $5.95.
Why Online
This is not a very good option. GiftCards.com seemed like a much better option to consider. They have $500 worth of Visa gift cards for a total value of $504.95. Not bad. The problem is that the Visa gift card from GiftCards.com is issued by Bancorp.
Bancorp Visa gift cards called Vanilla are known to be more difficult to work with when used as PIN-based debit cards at Walmart. Recently, the system started defaulting to credit, which doesn't work for Bluebird/Serve downloads and remittance purchases. I haven't been able to find any recent clarification on Visa giftcards.com and whether this is still an issue, but it's possible.
If anyone has information on this, please comment below. [UPDATE: Reader Tom points out that giftcards.com actually costs more than we said. After you add your shipping address (before entering your credit card information), you'll be presented with shipping options that cost $1.99 per card.
Each gift card is valued at $506.94. Another thing I learned is that giftcards.com only allows a maximum limit of $2,500 per order. The maximum you can order is 4 gift cards worth $500 and one gift card worth $475. If you order 5 cards, the shipping cost will be slightly less at $1.49 per card.] The only option known to work like PIN-based debit is the Visa gift cards sold by GiftCardMall.
List Of Options
These are issued by MetaBank and the default PIN is the last 4 digits of the card number, so you don't have to call and set it up. This may seem like a minor inconvenience, but for those who are racking up serious gift cards, it's a hassle saver.
These GiftCardMall / MetaBank gift cards are the same ones you usually find in supermarkets. When you buy it from a supermarket, they usually charge a fee of $5.95. When you buy them online from Giftcardmall, the price is higher, usually $7-$8. Let's break down the cost, assuming you buy one $500 gift card: When you buy more than one gift card, the shipping cost is reduced.

List Of Options
Visa cards from Sunrise Banks, an obscure option that doesn't seem to be mentioned anywhere. Called Macerich Visa Gift Cards, these are apparently part of a partnership program between GiftCardMall and Macerich Mall. If you want to find it on the main giftcardmall website, go to the giftcardmall homepage and scroll down to "View All Gift Cards".
Click on this option and you will see it in the list; actually the first item on the list. An additional note about viewing these options is that you may be better off using a different browser or incognito window, because when you go to the Giftcardmall Macerich partner page, you may not see the normal home page when using the giftcardmall.com URL.
Macerich Visa Gift Cards from GiftCardMall also have the same purchase fee of $3.95, but have a lower shipping fee. When you buy a gift card, there is a $1.99 shipping fee, so the total value of a $500 Visa card is $505.94. As with MetaBank gift cards, when you buy more gift cards, the shipping price goes down.

When you buy 10 Macerich Visa Gift Cards, the total amount will be $5,049.30. Macerich apparently has his own gift card website at givethegiftcard.com, which is actually the site printed on the back of the physical gift card. But when you try this url it redirects to giftcardmall affiliate program site.
Final Contenders
When browsing giftcardmall.com, the easiest way to tell if a Macerich/Sunrise or MetaBank gift card is by looking at the variable denomination amounts. MetaBank gift cards are $20-$500, while Macerich/Sunrise gift cards are $30-$500. The Macerich option is still $2 less per gift card. When you buy a gift card, you'll save $2 with the Macerich option.
When you buy 10 gift cards, you'll save $20 with the Macerich option. That's because Macerich cards don't charge an extra $2 for extra security on orders over $250, like MetaBank cards do. I'll leave it to you to decide, but I'm not entirely sure there's a difference between the two in terms of security.
As I recall both come in the same envelope and both come with an activation code. One thing I noticed is that my Macerich Visa received a code via email instead of the typical code that is sent by mail from giftcardmall. Specifically, one of my Macerich orders received an activation code via email, while the other did not receive anything.
Many people have mentioned that giftcardmall activation codes have been mysteriously not showing up lately. Check out this MilesToMemories post and the many comments on the post. I had to call to activate it. (The Giftcardmall rep said it would take two hours to activate. I actually called from the Walmart parking lot and was lucky to have it activated instantly.) I asked the Giftcardmall rep if emailed activation codes were currently available.
