Every purchase improves the lives of makers by supporting their craft and providing a fair, stable income. It goes back to Mennonite roots. Tree of Life Imports (from Latin America) was founded in 1989 during the Salvadoran Civil War to bring the art of La Palma to the American market.
Since then, they have focused on several Latin American communities to help ensure equal employment opportunities for all, including women and the rural poor. All products are handmade by artisans in El Salvador, Guatemala and Mexico. Tree of Life Imports stands for fair trade and economic justice.
They pay a fair price, which has allowed producers to significantly raise their standard of living. In business since 1991, working with artisans in Guatemala, Ghana, Thailand and Chile. A proud member of the Fair Trade Federation, Unique Batik guarantees its artisans fair wages, long-term relationships and safe working conditions free from discrimination and forced child labour.
This allows artists to earn a living, stay in their home communities and continue cultural traditions. Products: Ceramics, wood ornaments and metal crosses made from recycled car engine parts through direct, long-term relationships with small family workshops and cooperatives in Nicaragua and Costa Rica. In addition to placing consistent orders with artisan partners, they provide business training and product development and design, and offer interest-free microloans and direct grants to increase workshop capacity.
