UC Davis is restarting its Spanish mini-med school after a three-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mini Medical School has been running for 13 years and is a health education conference where health professionals discuss topics ranging from everyday health tips to chronic diseases in Spanish. This year's presentations also include the opioid health crisis, how to tell if you have long-term exposure to COVID-19, and immigrant mental health.
Because about 40 percent of the state's population is Latino, medical experts emphasize the benefits of prevention. "75 percent of chronic diseases are preventable, so if we provide information about diabetes or pain or mental health or dementia, we may be providing information that people can do something about," said Dr. Sergio Aguilar-Gaxiola.
