During the first hour of the game, you can get gifts from the Golden Temple. It is one of the largest places in the Izuhara area, inhabited entirely by friendly independent characters.
After you reach the Golden Temple for the first time, talk to an NPC who explains the mechanics of getting gifts. Later in the campaign, you will find other places where you can get gifts. In the Toyotama region, an example where you can get gifts is Akashima Village.
