Dragging his way home. To visit his family. The station is full of people trying to catch a train. The schemer (Brian O'Connor) is also in a good mood, as the Indian Valley Committee Christmas party. is holding and she's almost certain to get the part of Santa's helper. Matt (Jason Woolner) and Tanya (Nicole Leitch) write letters to Santa Claus and Mr. Conductor sends them on their way. He then tells them the story of the time.

It cannot be reused. The next day he continues his work without her, much to her delight. Unfortunately, he quickly encounters a blizzard and gets hit and trapped. Immediately he regrets breaking his snowplow. Bertie arrives to pick up Thomas' passengers and comes to Terence's rescue, taking Annie and Clarabelle before saving Thomas from the avalanche.

A grateful Thomas thanks Terence and apologizes for mocking him earlier. An elderly cousin of Harry's named Mr. Nichols (Lloyd Bridges) enters the station with Tucker Copper (Arden Bess) carrying a Christmas tree and immediately learns all about Stacey Jones (Diddy Cone) when he Was in childhood.

He says he's there to catch the Northern Star, a train that doesn't run on that track, but he's sure it will. Meanwhile, Stacey agrees to visit Claire's (Judy Marshak) bratty daughter, Vicki (Rachel Miner), at the station. Matt and Tanya dislike him for his behavior.
She meets Mr. Nicholas who teaches her to be nice to people and it soon starts to work. The schemer's mother dresses her as Santa's helper and she begins a campaign against Stacey by lying to Midge Smoot (Bobo Lewis), J.B. King (Mart Hilswet) and the mayor (Jerome Dempsey).
Mr. Conductor tells Matt and Tanya another story from the Island of Sodor - "Thomas's Christmas Party". After the story, Mr. Nicholas (actually Santa Claus) is still waiting for the Northern Star. To everyone's surprise, it enters the station as he predicted. Meanwhile, there was a fight over who would play Santa's helper.

Mr. Nichols encourages Vicki to use her songs as a gift to ease the conflict. His 1848 Shaker song "The Simple Gift" reminds him of the true spirit of Christmas. Harmony is restored as everyone gathers around the tree to celebrate the power of faith.

It's a gift to be simple, 'It's a gift to be free, 'It's a gift to be where you're supposed to be. . . Aaron Copland didn't write the melody associated with these words, but if any tune is uniquely Copland's, it's this one. He used it so prominently -- in the climatic variation section of "Appalachian Spring" and in a simple, powerful setting for solo vocals -- that it became forever associated with his name.

But music is not the only part of the old Shaker hymn "Simple Gift" that is a theme in Copeland's life and work. Words are no less important. The composer, who reached his 85th birthday on Thursday, earned his unique position as the No. 1 national monument in American classical music with his gift of simplicity.

Or at least to appear simple, to evoke a complex, spontaneous response. Copeland is not the most innovative and uniquely American of American composers (he might be Charles Ives or perhaps George Gershwin), nor is he the most influential on the world music scene (which Eliot Carter, John Cage or

He wasn't the first composer to work American folk motifs into classical compositions -- the technique is at least as old as the American Republic, and those who did it well before Copland included such notables as James Hewitt and Eli Sigmeister.
Unknown musicians were involved. In addition, familiar experience Louis M. Gottschalk, Ives, and Virgil Thompson. But Copland is an American serious composer who has achieved widespread popularity. After experimenting with other idioms, from jazz to atonality, he developed what he called the "American sound" through a combination of folk music and French-inspired orchestration.
He has given music to American folk heroes from Abraham Lincoln to Billy the Kid, not to mention more common cowboys and Appalachian farmers. And he has done it for an audience in the millions. Much of his best music is for ballet, which plays well on television and has helped him win a large video audience.
