Also, their collection of vintage lunch boxes hanging on their wall is great as well as their collection of Pez's. The Pink Pony Pub is just a few steps away which is worth a visit. We had heard good things about The Hangout but were sorely disappointed after our visit.
The food was very expensive, not good at all! The service was terrible - our drinks were never refilled and the restaurant was not busy at all. There is a small play area for children, but who wants to return all the "sand" right after cleaning up the dinner.... There was live music'
and it was good, but not great! It probably won't come back, unless someone buys us dinner! This place is my worst nightmare as far as restaurants go. I can't imagine why anyone would want to go there unless they were 12. It was very loud and lots of teenagers were running around dancing in large groups.

We had heard so many great reviews that we decided to skip FloraBama and go here..which turned out to be a mistake. The food was very expensive for taste. Our guest was very short with us and acted as if we were bothering him. The atmosphere was great but I won't be going back.
Hangout is one of the best places in terms of atmosphere! We used to go in for drinks at night. It was dead but we are at the end of the season. We returned with the family the next day for lunch. It was expensive at $14 for a burger but my burger loving husband said it was one of the best he's ever had!

The server said it had grenadine and when I put it in the drink the bottom of the blue drink turned red.. Our server was nice and the fries were not too greasy Gift shop It's really cool here and we've spent 30 minutes browsing through the good selection of stuff.

I wanted a bowl of Gumbo for lunch, and the Hangout had just reopened after being closed for a few weeks for winter cleaning.
My wife and I both ordered a bowl of gumbo and the waiter asked if it was an appetizer. I said no, I just want a bowl of gumbo for lunch.. $9.00 for chicken and a hot dog. The gumbo was served quickly enough but when I saw the size of the bowl I realized why he asked if it was just an appetizer.

A very small bowl for 9 dollars. Gumbo was delicious, served with a little rice. I didn't think rubber was worth $$$ John, we appreciate your comment. Gumbo is full of protein, sorry if you don't enjoy it anymore. We hope you will give us another chance soon.
We have been coming to hangout for years and the last 2 experiences have been bad. Usually there is a 2 hour wait for a table. Bad service! Bartenders are rude and staff is lacking. The food has never been good but we have always come for the atmosphere.
The music is so loud outside and inside that you can't even hear yourself think. It used to be fun for the kids to play outside while you waited, but now it's always packed, all you can do is stand shoulder to shoulder with strangers in the crowd.

The calimari was good and the sand snapper was also big. Thanks for the great review! We are so glad you enjoyed it! I hate it here, I can't do anything and it led to the waiter not hearing my order so I'm ready to buy a cocktail instead of a milkshake.
