The film also stars Casey Niccoli as his wife. It all starts when Perry is recording in the studio. Casey calls her to tell her that she bought him a "gift". Unfortunately, before he gets home, he yells at her and dies of a drug overdose.
He gets home and has a flashback showing how they got to this point, thanks to the wrong doctors. The story then continues to jump back and forth as Perry waits for the rescue to arrive. At one point, he sleeps with his corpse and thinks about trying to find drugs.
Then he remembered a voodoo wedding in Mexico. When the ambulance finally arrived, the paramedics were so rude that they called the police, who questioned Perry and eventually charged him with murder. No TV shows for the next 14 days. Watch Out
The film is based on Perry Ferrell, lead singer of Jane's Addiction. There's a story in everything, sometimes it's not obvious but it's interesting. Jane's drug scenes are mixed with scenes of drug use and pure stupidity. The film is considered a theatrical release and is shown in independent screenings on campus.

Hear lines like, "If the sky is dressed like Bozo, is it still the sky?" However, if you have a serious problem, this movie is not for you. There are clear drug addictions that can cause an addict to break a sweat! I think this movie is not released.
I have never seen it on DVD. Whether you like Janes Addict or not, this is a great movie about sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll in the early 90's.. It's not a heartbreak but a beautiful love story full of crazy fun. . Check out Ice T and Peripheral's cover of "Don't Call Me Nigger, Whitey".
Take care and educate yourself about the entire subculture with this movie. Don't do heroin! Enjoy! Bought as a gift for my boyfriend, who used to have it years ago when he lost his copy. The movie was great, I really enjoyed it and so did he.

Later released on Laserdisc in Japan, but never on DVD; New VHS copies sell for $150 on Amazon.com and eBay.

The Whole Book of Movies describes "The Gift" as "tying (concert) live music and studio footage into a haunting, tragic tale of love, death, and drug use."
JanesAddiction.org's discography states that the film is "unusual to watch, as it mixes some of the duo's history with fantasy... The film isn't real, only small parts of it make sense." Musically, "The Gift" shows Jane's drug addiction as she plays "Caught Stealing," "Three Days," and "Who!"
and "Old Girl" and "No Rights" (the latter two were taken from the film as the official soundtrack for the song), as well as music by Red Hot Chili Peppers John Frusciante and performances by Sly and the Family Stone of "Don't." T Call (clearly), Whitey "on jeans and Ice-T and body count (see video below). No other details are known about the DVD release of "The Gift", which has been rumored for years - and many fans were disappointed when it was not included in the conference
