His influence can be everywhere at once. His mission is to witness the Father and the Son and the whole truth. Additionally, the Holy Spirit purifies or sanctifies us to prepare us to dwell in the presence of God. The Holy Spirit cleanses our hearts so that we no longer desire to do bad things.

Gifts Of The Holy Spirit

What is the difference between the Holy Spirit and the gift of the Holy Spirit? The gift of the Holy Spirit is the privilege—given to people who have believed in Jesus Christ, been baptized, and been confirmed as members of the Church—to receive the Holy Spirit's continual guidance and inspiration.

Joseph Smith said that we enjoy the gift of the Holy Ghost as much as we enjoyed it in the days of the first apostles. We believe in this gift in all its perfection, power, majesty and glory. (See Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Joseph Smith [2007], pp. 97-98).

A person can be temporarily led by the Holy Spirit without receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit (see Deuteronomy 130:23). However, this guidance will not be continuous unless the person is baptized and lays hands on the gift of the Holy Spirit. In Acts 10 we read that the Roman soldier Cornelius was inspired by the Holy Spirit to know that the gospel of Jesus Christ is true.

But Cornelius did not receive the gift of the Holy Spirit until after his baptism. The Prophet Joseph Smith taught that if Cornelius had not received the baptism and gift of the Holy Ghost, the Holy Ghost would have left him (see Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Joseph Smith, p. 97).

One Body But Many Parts

People who are not members of the Church today learn by the power of the Holy Ghost that the Book of Mormon is true (see Moroni 10:4–5). But if they do not receive the gift of the Holy Spirit, this first testimony leaves them. They do not receive the constant assurance that can come to those who have the gift of the Holy Spirit.

What must we do to receive the constant companionship of the Holy Spirit? After people are baptized, they are confirmed as members of the church and given the gift of the Holy Spirit by the laying on of hands. The Lord said, "Confirm every one ye believe by the laying on of hands in my church, and I will give unto them the gift of the Holy Ghost" (D&C 15:33).

Any worthy elder in the church, when permitted, can give the gift of the Holy Spirit to another person. However, there is no guarantee that a person will receive inspiration and guidance from the Holy Spirit just because elders have laid their hands on his head.

Each person must "receive the Holy Spirit." This means that the Holy Spirit only comes to us when we are faithful and ask for help from this heavenly messenger. To merit the help of the Holy Spirit, we must sincerely seek to obey God's commandments.

One Body But Many Parts

We must keep our thoughts and actions pure. The Holy Spirit usually communicates with us quietly. His influence is often referred to as a "still small voice" (see 1 Kings 9:19-12; Helaman 5:30; Deuteronomy 6:85). President Boyd K. Packer explained: “The Holy Spirit speaks with a voice that you feel more than you hear.

..While we speak of "listening" to the promptings of the Spirit, one often describes a spiritual prompting by saying, "I felt..." or what shall we say, or may warn or warn you' (in Conference Report, Oct. 1994, p. 77; or Ensign, Nov. 1994, p. 60).

What blessings can we receive through the gift of the Holy Spirit? The gift of the Holy Spirit is one of God's greatest gifts to us. Through the Holy Spirit we can know that God lives, that Jesus is the Christ, and that His Church has been restored to the earth.

We can have the promptings of the Holy Ghost to show us all that we should do (see 2 Nephi 5:32). The Holy Spirit sanctifies us to prepare us for God's presence. We can enjoy the gifts of the Spirit (see chapter 22 of this book).

Love Is Necessary

This great gift from our Heavenly Father can also bring peace to our hearts and understanding of the things of God (see 1 Corinthians 2:9-12). Why is the gift of the Holy Spirit one of God's greatest gifts to us? 1 Corinthians 3:16-17; D&C 130:22-23 (The Holy Spirit dwells with the faithful) 12 Brothers and sisters, I want you to know about the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

2. You know you were once an unbeliever. You are somehow drawn to worshiping statues of gods who are not even able to speak. 3 Therefore I want you to know that no one who speaks by the Spirit of God says, "Cursed be Jesus!"

And without the help of the Holy Spirit no one can say, "Jesus is Lord." There are 4 different gifts. But they are all given to believers by the same Spirit. 5. There are different ways of providing services. But they all come from the same Lord.
