Some of this is likely due to word of mouth, but much of its success must be attributed to Edgerton's darkly beautiful efforts not only as the film's co-star, but also as a writer and director

Considering Simon saw this story as a common occurrence, and she was watching at the time, Gordo would have to have the purpose of The King of Planet Terror and some sort of magical DNA to overcome the contaminants in Robyn's system in that moment.

Then again, that's if Gordo even raped Robyn in the first place, which I don't think happened. But even if Gordo snuck into the house, got high, and made out with Robyn, and she didn't report him, it wasn't until an unknown period of time that she became pregnant.

This in no way justifies his actions. That doesn't make him a father. Of course, a case can be made for either side of The Gift's central mystery. Evidence can be easily refuted and new evidence can be introduced to counter what is left. But given the hard work of Joel Edgerton and the lack of narrative shortcuts in The Gift, it seems that when all the facts are reported and considered, Gordo isn't quite the weirdo that Simon has painted him out to be.
