The Gift Explanation
Unless spoilers are your thing, in which case have it. Joel Edgerton's The Gift had a pretty good second week at the box office, with all the makings of a sleepy end-of-summer hit. Part of this is probably due to strong word of mouth, but a large part of its success should be attributed to Edgerton's darkly beautiful efforts, not only as a co-star in the film, but also as a writer and first-time director of a
A film that explores bullying in a truly Hitchcockian way - until the devastating ending, which shrouds the events of the film in a shroud of ambiguity. The end of The Present raises a big question as to whether the child born to Jason Bateman's Simon and Rebecca Hall's Robyn was fathered by Robyn's husband or by her would-be rapist Gordo (Edgerton).
Although we are shown extremely compelling evidence in favor of Gordo's possible status as the father, there are hints scattered throughout the film's story that suggest the stalker is just screwing with Simon's head - contradicting the rumors that Simon Years before had circulated, which caused him a lot of difficulties.
Plot Summary
So who is the baby daddy, and who will be mad? Get ready to face the truth with us as we uncover the gift's greatest mystery. The argument for Gordo's surprise leap into fatherhood is what the film leans heavily on in its third act, so let's first break down the scenario that proves he did the deed.

In the gift package left for Simon when he comes home from the hospital, there are three things: a key to the house; an audio recording of Simon and Robyn's conversation at Gordo's "house", detailing his supposed plan to steal and impregnate Simon's wife; and the video recording of Gordo's break-in.
While Robyn was indeed drugged, and the footage shows Gordo entering the house - wearing a monkey mask, just to scare Simon even more - entering the house and climbing on top of Simon's unconscious wife, the film is cut before any sexual activity can occur.
This leaves much doubt in the case of Gordo's parentage to the young born in The Gift's third act. But if context clues are weighed as evidence, Gordo's conversation with Robyn may be the smoking gun, as he tells her that "good things happen to good people."
Why Is Seder After Atiye?
If Gordo is as much of a sneak as Simon thinks he is, then this line is meant to convey guilt and irrefutable evidence that Gordo took Robyn in an unconscious state and gave her the "gift" , which she and Simon fought. reach - that of a newborn child.
However, when you look at Gordo's character, a different story begins to unfold throughout the central mystery of the film. Let's explore the options. On the surface, The Gift paints Gordo as a delirious psychopath. But the film does as much work to build a case for those who defend him as it does for those who condemn him.

Most stories would paint the bullied as becoming the bully. Joel Edgerton's writing doesn't let the audience off the hook so easily. A specific case is Gordo's actions during the parking lot confrontation between himself and Simon, then the latter comes to "apologize". While Simon characteristically bullies Gordo and eventually causes physical harm to him, Gordo does nothing to fight back against his attacker.
Even in the previous two acts of The Gift, we don't see Gordo doing anything extraordinary - except for drugging Robyn. Putting that plot aside for now, but the most Gordo ever does - from a menacing point of view - is issue Simon an ominous warning that he should have thought before he acted.
The Ending
It all comes down to the fact that Gordo, despite being a victim throughout his life, never turns into the total monster that people expect to see based on the trailer The Gift released to promote his movie. If anything, Gordo seems like the kind of person who perseveres through the little things that are dealt against him, and he does so with his belief that "good things" happen to "good people".
Through this lens, his remarks at the hospital are not a declaration of guilt, but rather an affirmation of faith. Robyn is a good person, so her wish for a child was granted; while Simon's not so good behavior now made him think that flesh and blood might not be quite like that.
With both sides of the equation out in the open, it's time to evaluate the facts and show where we stand. From where the current facts stand, as well as some other questions that the film leaves in its narrative, it is certain that Gordo is not the father of Simon and Robyn's child.

The argument hinges on one moment in the overall narrative of the film - and that is the supposed rape of Robyn. Again, with his outlook on life, as well as the pattern of behavior he established through The Gift, Gordo is the type of person who believes in justice through a superior moral standing.
Poem Meaning
Which means he can be as much of a manipulator as he wants, but he will never influence the actions of a person with behavior as dirty as their own. In my opinion anyway. Now, as the movie alluded to earlier, the reason why Robyn and Simon moved to their old stomping grounds is that of Robyn's history with substance abuse - which is the presumed cause of her miscarriage.
Which begs the question: If Robyn was pulled down by Gordo, would that be enough of an event to screw up her body chemistry to prevent a successful pregnancy? The destruction caused by the reintroduction of such foreign substances into her body could certainly have reset her body chemistry.
More importantly, we saw earlier that Robyn stole drugs from her neighbor's medicine cabinet, and when she told Simon, she had an incident where she fell. Considering that Simon took this story as a regular occurrence, and she was doping at the time, Gordo would have to target Planet Terror's El Rey and some sort of magical DNA to get past the contamination in Robyn's system at the time.
Then again, that's if Gordo insulted Robyn in the first place, which I don't think happened. But even though Gordo sneaked into the house, drugged and had his way with Robyn, and she didn't report him - it wasn't until an unknown time later that she became pregnant.
