The Gift Did Gordo Do It

If spoilers aren't your thing, in which case, get it. With all the trappings of a late-summer hit, Joel Edgerton's The Gift enjoyed a solid second week at the box office. Part of that is probably due to strong word of mouth, but much of its success must be attributed to Edgerton's darkly beautiful efforts not only as the film's lead star, but also as a first-time writer and director.

It explores intimidation in truly Hitchcockian style – right up to the devastating finale that shrouds the film's events in uncertainty. The ending of The Gift raises the big question of whether the child born to Jason Bateman's Simon and Rebecca Hall's Robin was fathered by Robin's husband or her rapist Gordo (Egerton).

Although we are shown very compelling evidence that Gordo could be the father, there are details in the film's story that suggest the stalker will only hit Simon in the head. to its many difficulties. So who is the father and who is angry? Get ready to discover the truth with us as we unravel the ultimate mystery of the gift.

Where To Watch?

The surprise story about Gordo's paternity relies heavily on the film's third act, so let's first look at the script that proves he did. The gift package left for Simon upon his return from the hospital contains three things: a house key; an audio recording of the conversation between Simon and Robin at Gordo's "house", recording his alleged plan to kidnap Simon's wife and impregnate her;

and a video recording of Gordo's invasion. While Robin is indeed drugged and the footage shows Gordo donning a monkey mask in the house to further scare Simon - entering the house and climbing over Simon's unconscious wife, the footage cuts to of any sexual activity.

can occur. This casts much doubt on Gordo's parentage regarding the young child born in the third act of The Gift. However, if context clues are to be weighed as evidence, Gordo's conversation with Robin may be the smoking gun, as he tells her that "good people become good things."

If Gordo is as sober as Simon thinks, then this line is an admission of guilt and anecdotal evidence that Gordo knocked Robin unconscious and gave him and Simon a "gift". the struggle to achieve is in the hands of the newborn. But if we take a look at the character of Gordo, a different story begins to develop about the main mystery of the film.

Move To La

Let's look at the alternatives. On the surface, The Gift presents Gordon as a raging psychopath. However, the film works as hard to build a case for its defenders as it does for its accusers. Many stories turn the bully into a bully. Joel Edgerton's writing does not disappoint audiences easily.

An example of this is Gordo's behavior during the confrontation with Simon in the parking lot, after which the latter comes to "apologize". Although Simon threatens Gordo and eventually physically injures him, Gordo does nothing to fight back against his attacker. Even in the previous two acts of The Gift, we don't see Gordo do anything other than drug Robin.

Charting this action in the present, what Gordo does - with a menacing look - is a forewarning to Simon that he should think before he acts. It all boils down to the fact that Gordo, despite being a victim throughout his life, never becomes the monster that people see based on the trailers The Gift released to promote his movie.

In any case, Gordo seems to be the kind of patient, easy-going person he is up against, and he does so with his belief in "good things" happening to "good people". Through this lens, what he says at the hospital is not an admission of guilt, but a vindication of faith.

Move To La

Robin is a good man, so his wish to have a child was granted; and Simon's less than good behavior now made him think that flesh and blood might not be so. With both sides of the equation in view, it's time to assess the facts and show where we stand.

Based on the current events, as well as the other questions the movie leaves in the story, it's safe to say that Gordo is not the father of Simon and Robin's child. The argument is based on a moment in the overall narrative of the film - the rape of Robin.

Again, given his outlook on life as well as the pattern of behavior he develops throughout The Gift, Gordo is the type of person who believes in justice through a moral high ground. That is, he can be as good a manipulator as he wants, but he will never influence a person's actions with his dirty behavior.

I don't think so anyway. Now, as mentioned earlier in the film, the reason why Robin and Simon moved back to their old place - Robin's history of drug addiction - could be the alleged reason for the miscarriage. This begs the question: If Robin was drugged by Gordo, would it be enough to disrupt her body chemistry to prevent a successful pregnancy?

Robyn Drugged

Of course, the disruption caused by reintroducing such foreign substances into his body could restore his body chemistry. More importantly, we saw earlier that Robin had taken stolen medicine from her neighbor's pharmacy, and as she told Simon, she fell. Given that Simon took this event for granted and that he was doped at the time, Gordo's goal must have been some sort of magical DNA to get past the planetary terror, El Rey, and the contaminants in his system

Robin at the time. Again, if Gordo had hacked Robin in the first place, I don't think he would have. Gordo sneaks into the house, takes drugs and makes out with Robin, though he doesn't tell her - and she soon becomes pregnant. It doesn't make his actions right.

That doesn't just make him a father. Of course, it is possible to do both sides of the central mystery of the Gift. Evidence can be easily disproved and new evidence can be presented to counter what is left. But given the hard work of Joel Edgerton and the lack of narrative shortcuts in The Gift , when all the facts are reported and explained, it doesn't seem as strange as Gordo Simon makes it out to be.

He's a freak who spent his day against a bully who has taken his place in a chain of figures trying to completely destroy his life. Which means it's time to direct your debate: Whose child do you think Robin bore? Father Gordo or Father Simon?
