The Alamo Visitor Center and Museum, which Becar County recently approved $25 million in funding over the next five years, will open in 2026 and reuse the historic Crockett and Woolworth buildings. The visitor center will also include a 4D theater, special event space, rooftop restaurant, retail space and will be home to the entire collection of Phil Collins Texana.

The museum will tell the full 300-year history of the Alamo through key interpretive themes, including: We plan to work with city, county and state stakeholders to ensure a historically accurate narrative that tells the full story of the site. This narrative informs the entire design and interpretation of the future exhibition.

Our goal is to create a guest experience truly worthy of the Alamo and our community's rich and diverse cultural heritage. This exhibit space will add 10,000 square feet of space at the nearby Alamo Collections Center, bringing the total amount of exhibit space at the Alamo from 1,800 square feet to more than 42,000.

Exhibiting only 1% of the objects in today's Alamo collection, the Alamo exhibit will become an educational center. This learning space preserves the Alamo's history with classrooms for all ages, a studio for distance learning opportunities, and space for guest lectures. Gallagher & Associates estimates that the Alamo Visitor Center and Museum will generate $12 billion in economic benefits for the state of Texas, creating more than 8,100 jobs and more than $600 million in tax revenue.

These figures are based on Elmo's pre-pandemic attendance and include the museum's first two years of construction and five years of operation since opening.
