from The Pokémon Trading Card Game everyone is sitting in. tidy piles, alongside rumors of theft and conspiracy. The photo appeared in a private Facebook group over the weekend before making its way to the top of Reddit. The cards were allegedly stolen straight from the printer - how else could one person get their hands on so many rare Pokémon cards?
Do Target Gift Cards Expire?
Some players believed that the theft was not the result of the precious rainbow-colored cards but that it was legitimately sold packs of the Pokemon Trading Card Games Fusion Strike expansion. Polagán spoke to the people involved in the attempt to sell the rare cards to find out what happened.
The story begins in November 2021. The COVID-19 pandemic had been going on for over a year, and the Pokémon TCG was still releasing new sets of cards to eager fans. Both new and vintage Pokemon cards have skyrocketed in value, thanks to fans like rapper Logic and hitman Logan Paul snapping them up for astronomical prices.
When the Fusion Strike series was released just before the holidays, fans camped outside stores across the country for a chance to snag a few packs before stocks sold out. In some places, the police were even brought in to deal with the crowds. The fracas would eventually lead to one big-box retailer, Target, temporarily banning the sale of Pokémon cards, citing safety concerns.

A few weeks into the frenzy, Trading Card World, a small independent dealer in Dallas, Texas, got a call. Someone had Fusion Strike cards for sale - lots of them. There were actually so many rare cards that no one in the store could believe it.
Do Target Gift Cards Expire?
So they asked for a photo as proof. "It took them [the seller] a month or two to provide a picture," said Scott Emer, co-founder of Trading Card World, in an interview with Polygon. "When they finally did, we thought, Well, this is really strange."
Emer had seen huge collections for sale before, but not all from the same series. But why was it such a big red flag? Pokémon cards, like the Magic: The Gathering cards, Yu-Gi-Oh! cards, and cards from other collectible card games, are sold in so-called blind sealed packs.
No one knows what cards are in each pack, not even the manufacturer - that's part of what makes opening them so much fun. But every pack will contain at least one rare card, and those rarest cards can be extremely valuable on the secondary market.
The seller who contacted Trading Card World had these sought after rare cards in huge quantities, all from the same deck. To find so many rare items, the seller had to open thousands of packages. A much more reasonable explanation is that these cards were removed from the production line before being packed inside blind packs.
