Spongebob Gift Box - At the beginning of the episode, SpongeBob runs to Patrick's house, ready to catch a jellyfish. Patrick says he'll go with him, but first he needs to put his "secret box" away. SpongeBob tries to look inside, but Patrick refuses to let him see. SpongeBob tempts Patrick to share his secrets, but this only convinces Patrick to guard his secret box even more closely.

SpongeBob tries to distract him with his many secrets, but Patrick only notices his box. "If you come near my secret box again, we won't be friends anymore!" As Patrick explains how much he has to do to keep his box safe, he doesn't notice SpongeBob sneaking up on her, frantically preparing to look.

Patrick stops him in time and fights SpongeBob on the box. The sight of SpongeBob's hands jumping out, still desperately clutching the box, disgusts Patrick, and makes him question the validity of their membership in the Best Friends Forever Club. He threatens to end their friendship if SpongeBob continues to try to learn his secret.

SpongeBob apologizes to Patrick and promises to respect Patrick's right to privacy, and the two remain friends. That night, SpongeBob can't sleep, still thinking about Patrick's secret box and wondering about its contents. He convinces himself that by sneaking into Patrick's house while he's sleeping, Patrick won't be upset and he can look at the secret guilt-free.

Running Gags

Despite Gary's pleas, SpongeBob goes ahead with his plan, dons silk stockings as a mask and slides under Patrick's rock. Inside, the box is placed in plain sight on Patrick's nightstand. SpongeBob, tiptoeing across the potato chip-covered floor, is afraid to wake Patrick with every step.

Finally reaching the bed, SpongeBob reaches for the box, but Patrick catches it in his sleep. SpongeBob, who has a convenient cube shape, carefully slides into place of the box as Patrick tries to take something from it, while pulling SpongeBob's tongue. Patrick then places SpongeBob next to him on the bed, allowing SpongeBob to return to the floor.

As he prepares to leave, SpongeBob trips over a shoelace and begins crashing and bouncing around the rock in a cacophony of noise, culminating in him hitting a wall and shattering a framed picture of him and Patrick. Despite all this, Patrick continues to sleep soundly.

SpongeBob quietly notices how soundly Patrick is sleeping, causing Patrick to finally wake up and catch a masked SpongeBob with a box. Believing it to be an "oyster rake", Patrick prepares to attack it with a pillow until SpongeBob confirms his identity with his BFF's ring.

What’s Inside?

Shocked and embarrassed, Patrick declares that their friendship is over. Immediately afterwards, Patrick changes his mind and finally allows SpongeBob to look inside the box. SpongeBob eagerly opens the box but finds a piece of string. After thanking Patrick for letting him watch, SpongeBob goes home, laughing that he shouldn't have been surprised.

Left alone again, Patrick ponders the box's true secret nature: when a string is pulled, the secret compartment opens to reveal an embarrassing picture of SpongeBob at a Christmas party, and Patrick laughs it off, joking about Merry Christmas to SpongeBob, not that it matters, since the two houses are out of earshot
