Major bus companies such as PMTOH, Pelangi, Kurnia and Pusaka have offices at Jl. Gajah Mada, Medan. Prices range from Rp 110,000 in a bus with regular seats to Rp 200,000 in a spacious bus. Small buses can also take you to Banda Aceh from the Medan area, but the journeys are longer.
Prices are slightly cheaper than coaches. You can also travel from Medan to Banda Aceh via Kutacane and Takengon. This will be 20 hours in total. Airlines fly daily between Banda Aceh and Medan, 1 hour away, Jakarta, 2-40 hours away, or Singapore, about 4 hours away. There are no other buses serving the airport.
The only way to the city area is by airport taxi, which is fixed at Rp 100,000 (2019). The taxi rank is on the far left as soon as you exit the arrivals gate. Visa regulations at the airport are similar to other Indonesian immigration procedures.
By Bus[Edit]
The nearest major seaport (international) is Belawan seaport, near Medan. It accepts ships originating from Batam, Indonesia (common route when coming from Singapore). The ferry from Penang does not operate. From Ulhee-lhee, the port of Banda Aceh you can go to Pulau Weh and Pulau Aceh.
The main means of transportation are becak (taxi) and lobby-lobi (public bus). Due to the sudden influx of money after the Tsunami, the local people used to overcharge, but now peace has returned. Examples of bus fares are: Airport - Grand Mosque: Rp 40,000; Bus Station - Main Mosque: Rp 8,000;

There are interesting fish, meat and vegetable markets in the center of town. Also, there are some small shops selling various local products. Hermes Palace Mall is located in the center of Banda Aceh. The mall has over 100 stores along with a food court, supermarket and clothing stores.
Acehnese breakfast is nasi goriya, rice cooked with coconut milk, sold in coffee shops everywhere. Food stalls and padang restaurants are open throughout the unspoiled area, and fruit stands are everywhere. There are some nice coffee houses with soothing rice views around Ulee Kareng, along Jl Tengku Iskander in the western suburbs.
Three fast food restaurants can be found in the center, A&W, KFC and Pizza Hut. As with all travelers a sense of humor and a good attitude is all you need to get along in this small town. However, there are some things you should keep in mind.

Although Banda Aceh is now safer than most European cities, it is still best not to go alone after 10pm. Because the Sharia is enforced, it is not permissible to drink alcohol, although it is possible. Violation of the local interpretation of the law can lead to arrest by the Sharia police and physical torture and public ridicule of the guilty Muslim.
