Southwest Airlines Gift Card Balance
The Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card (opens in new tab) has launched an exciting offer: sign up as a new customer and receive 80,000 points after spending $4,000 on purchases in the first 3 months. These points are worth $1,000 toward travel when redeemed through Chase Ultimate Rewards®, or you can exchange them on a 1:1 basis for several frequent flyer programs.
This introductory bonus is one of the most generous cards we've seen recently, putting out a lot of competition among rival rewards credit cards. After using the trigger, you will earn 1-5 points per dollar spent to continue earning. Plus, it's a great card to take abroad as there are no overseas transaction fees.
And because Chase allows points to be transferred between members of the same family, your spouse can also sign up and earn the same bonus, giving your family 160,000 bonus points, or $2,000 in travel value. With good planning, you and your partner can fly to Europe or the Caribbean with airfare paid for with these bonus points.

Chase Sapphire Preferred Credit Card Launches $1K Bonus Offer
The Chase Ultimate Rewards program beats most of its competitors in terms of its ease of use and the value of its points. You can transfer your Chase Points to any of its eleven partners at a one-to-one rate. And you'll get 25% more value when you redeem points for airfare, hotels, car rentals and cruises through the Chase Ultimate Rewards site;
For example, 10,000 points are worth $125 toward travel. Finally, this card is unique in its ability to help you collect frequent flyer miles. Most cards do not allow customers to earn frequent flyer miles when booking with their travel card; The Chase Sapphire Preferred Card allows you to collect frequent flyer miles when you book air travel, increasing the total value of your points.

Hotel and other expenses are not included in these benefits. You can use up to 80,000 bonus points by transferring them to your favorite frequent flyer or hotel program, as long as they are members of the Ultimate Rewards program. Or you can redeem points through the Ultimate Rewards website, where you'll be able to redeem them for a maximum value of 25%.
As an example of using bonus points, imagine you plan to use 80,000 bonus points on an upcoming trip. After spending at least $4,000 in the first three months of card ownership, you'll need to wait an additional six to eight weeks for bonus points to post to your account, so don't plan to redeem bonus points right away.

Let's say you have a frequent flyer account with United Airlines. You can transfer the bonus 80,000 points to your United account, adding an amount equal to 80,000 miles. However, if you book your flight through the Chase Ultimate Rewards website, you can redeem them at a rate of 1:25 instead of 1:1, assuming your United miles are worth 100,000 miles on the Chase platform.
With 100,000 United Frequent Flyer miles you can book a round-trip ticket from the US to Europe on United. The downside is that you may have to extend your time to get the best deal, but that's not a fault of the card but a reflection of rising airfares.
For example, a one-way flight from Chicago O'Hare to Milan, Italy requires 70,000 points for a direct United flight, but if you're willing to add a stop (and several hours of layover) in Munich. If something goes wrong with your trip, you contact customer service agents from Chase Ultimate Rewards instead of United.

That's why it's important to understand how credit card travel sites work. Chase gets average to high marks for its travel website customer service. And according to The Points Guy (opens in new tab), flight prices on Chase's website are the same as those quoted directly by the airline.
Kiplinger's Take
If you book a round-trip ticket using redeemable points, you'll have approximately 17,000 to 37,000 points in your Chase account. You should be able to get a night or two at a small luxury hotel in Milan for 12,000 Hat Points per night. Can you find hotels and flights offered on the Chase Ultimate Rewards website?
It is quite possible. You'll also find more variety in hotels, and if you find a small hotel or B&B that isn't affiliated with a credit card brand, you're more likely to get off the beaten path. But still, you got a trip to Europe for the card's $95 annual fee, and any way you look at it, that's great.
As with any rewards credit card, be sure to weigh these benefits against the fees — in this case the $95 annual fee — and make sure you understand how to use the card effectively. $95 is a small price to pay if you get a lot of benefits.
Additionally, rewards credit cards can be great if you use them wisely, pay them off in full each month to avoid interest that reduces benefits, and only use what you use to hit any trigger; Otherwise, they can be a false economy, causing you to overspend.
